In Pokémon, there are lots of different moves used by different Pokémon. Every week, we shall focus the discussion on a different move, and there will be some base questions that would help you start this off. This week, Leech Seed is chosen.

When it comes to HP-draining moves, nothing beats Leech Seed in terms of its job at sapping HP from opponents. This Generation 1 move proves to be useful just because reducing the survivability of the opponent and increasing your own at the same time is great. It doesn't affect Grass-types, so that is one way to avoid it.

Here's the in-game description for this move:

In-game Description (XY) said:
Type: Grass (Other)
Base Power: --
Accuracy: 90%
PP: 10

A seed is planted on the target. It steals some HP from the target every turn.

Here are the usual possible questions about this move:
  • How does certain Pokémon (who knows it) use this move? What kind of purpose would this move have for them (in the Pokémon World)?
  • How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?
  • Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.
  • How would this move be used in battling, realistically or video game-wise?

Other questions (You could ask other critical questions beyond the listed):
  • If the seeds are remote from the user, how do energy get transferred to the user?

Here are the current users of this move (put in Spoiler tag due to the large list):

Previous Move-of-the-Weeks:

For every four weeks, users get to vote for the next Move-of-the-Week. To narrow down the selection of potential moves, a criteria for the next move would be placed. If you want to vote, at least contribute to the topic in hand (because this topic is about the current move, not about voting for the next move). If you posted just to vote, your vote won't be considered.

One more thing: if a move is already covered in a past Move-of-the-Week, then it won't be considered, so make sure to check the list to see if the move you wish to vote had already been covered.

Criterion for next move: HP-Draining move (List here)

It's a very annoying move to meet, especially when those Grass-types use Substitute, Leech Seed, and Protect. I almost cried when my Gallade helplessly fell to a Whimsicott that way until my Aggron killed it off next. But anyways...

They should make Leech Seed less effective on Ice-types. The animation features small seeds getting planted, which looks more or less like real plants, and it's rather unusual they'd work perfectly fine on Ice-types. For example, Froslass' breath is supposed to freeze nearly everything, and Vanillite is an ice-cream. Do plants grow well with ice-cream? I don't think so.

Voting Death Wing (sig move of Yveltal)

-Being a Grass type (most of them anyway), they create seeds the same way they do for Bullet Seed, Seed Bomb, etc., and launch them at the foe. I don't think the seeds really root into the foe, otherwise the move would probably do more damage. They probably just spread their roots on the 'mons skin and strangle it a bit.

-Well, many Pokémon have the ability to draw power from nature (any one that can learn Energy Ball can do it to some degree), so they just take the energy the plants give off and absorb it into them selves.

We should discuss Drain Punch next.

If the seeds are remote from the user, how do energy get transferred to the user?

My theory on this has always been that there are roots connecting the seeds/plants to the user. The energy travels along the roots.

Also, I vote Shadow Sneak.
