In Pokémon, there are lots of different moves used by different Pokémon. Every week, we shall focus the discussion on a different move, and there will be some base questions that would help you start this off. This week, Egg Bomb is chosen.

This week, along with the next three, will be running the theme of "Ball and Bomb moves", which is a unique property that Bulletproof takes advantage of. The first move is from Generation 1, in which the user use their egg as a weapon. Keep in mind that this is before trainers get to keep eggs, so it's likely not related to unborn offspring. It's a somewhat powerful move, though its users are not known for their attack power (except Mew).

Here's the in-game description for this move:

In-game Description (XY) said:
Type: Normal (Physical)
Base Power: 100
Accuracy: 75%
PP: 10

A large egg is hurled at the target with maximum force to inflict damage.

Here are the usual possible questions about this move:
  • How does certain Pokémon (who knows it) use this move? What kind of purpose would this move have for them (in the Pokémon World)?
  • How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?
  • Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.
  • How would this move be used in battling, realistically or video game-wise?

Other questions (You could ask other critical questions beyond the listed):
  • What does the egg contains that make them explosive?
  • How do the users obtain eggs for the use of this weapon?

Here are the current users of this move:
(Level-up)
  • Exeggutor
  • Chansey & Blissey

    (Technical Machine - Gen 1) (TM37)
  • Exeggcute & Exeggutor
  • Mew

Thanks for reading, and happy discussing!

How do the users obtain eggs for the use of this weapon?
Chansey and Blissey can make eggs. Exeggutor are something like coconut trees and they'd be able to keep growing their 'eggs' repeatedly.

What does the egg contains that make them explosive?
There are ways to make eggs explosive in the real world. One method is microwaving them. If you microwave an egg without cracking it, it'll explode (NEVER ATTEMPT THIS). Even if it doesn't explode directly, if you throw it, it'll be a bomb. I saw the effects on TV, and said 'egg bomb' was enough to destroy the microwave. So my guess is that the pokemons can do it as well. Exggutor is a Psychic-type, and it would probably be able to 'microwave' the eggs before throwing them using psychic power. Maybe Chansey/Blissey can do it as well.

Or maybe they actually have real bombs in the eggs that explode when they come in contact with something.

Chansey and Blissey also have access to 'Softboiled', indicating they have some means of heating their eggs. This combines quite well with Dark Chocolate's explanation.

How does certain Pokémon (who knows it) use this move? What kind of purpose would this move have for them (in the Pokémon World)?
Like many moves, it would be used for self-defense. Mother Pokémon, with eggs, would likely use it to protect their young.

How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?
If you were a chef, unlimited eggs! Same for Softboiled.

Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.
Yes, because of my logic that that it is used by mother Pokémon, and really any female Pokémon can be a mother.

How would this move be used in battling, realistically or video game-wise?
Launching a egg at the enemy at a high enough velocity to be harmful on impact.

What does the egg contains that make them explosive?
I don't know that they would explode, just shatter, and they would be going fast enough for the shell-shrapnel to do significant damage to the enemy.

How do the users obtain eggs for the use of this weapon?
Chansey and Blissey always have eggs, because they are the most 'motherly' Pokémon. Exeggutor, maybe it grows them like like a tree, like coconuts? I mean it has egg right in the name. Mew if course can learn every move.

Interesting theory about how psychic waves could act as a microwave to their explosive eggs. That would explain the sheer power of the impact. It's interesting to note that Chansey/Blissey's wide movepool includes Psychic, so it's possible that psychic power could be involved.

I imagine that if a mother have deploy their eggs in this fashion, they have to sacrifice their young in the process because not every Pokémon could generate eggs as fast as the main learners. Though it does have the benefit of protecting the others, so it's probably a last-ditch survival effort.

That's another interesting idea. Normally people would assume that when the egg explodes, it will explode like a bomb, similar to any other bomb. That would be quite painful, though. That would support your idea that a cook could use the eggs, because if you go with the theory of volatile eggs, it would be too dangerous as food.

Thanks for reading.

I meant infertile eggs, ones not containing young. Chickens produce infertile eggs all the time. We eat them. I talked about chefs and the prospect of unlimited eggs, right? You would need infertile eggs for that, so if eggs are used at all in food in the Pokémon world, Pokémon are capable of generating infertile eggs, which would be much easier and faster to generate then regular fertile eggs.
