In Pokémon, there are lots of different moves used by different Pokémon. Every week, we shall focus the discussion on a different move, and there will be some base questions that would help you start this off. This week, because nobody voted, Rock Wrecker is chosen.

Generation 4's signature moves weren't as plentiful as other Generations. Perhaps it's surprising that quite a few evolutions of older Pokémon got this treatment. Initially a signature move for Rhyperior, it was quite a powerful attack, even though its drawback of inactiveness is a deterrent for repeated use. This move is one of among a few moves that lost the signature quality in a subsequent Generation, as we have seen with Horn Leech and Sacred Sword. Since it is a "cannon" attack, anything with Bulletproof is immune to it.

Here's the in-game description for this move:

In-game Description (XY) said:
Type: Rock (Physical)
Base Power: 150
Accuracy: 90%
PP: 5

The user launches a huge boulder at the target to attack. The user can't move on the next turn.

Here are the usual possible questions about this move:
  • How does certain Pokémon (who knows it) use this move? What kind of purpose would this move have for them (in the Pokémon World)?
  • How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?
  • Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.
  • How would this move be used in battling, realistically or video game-wise?

Other questions (You could ask other critical questions beyond the listed):
  • Being a cannon attack, how do its users use this attack like a cannon, considering their lack of blasting points?

Here are the current users of this move:
(Level-up)
  • Rhyperior
  • Dwebble & Crustle

Thanks for reading, and happy discussing!

I noticed that this move is similar to the way that Rock Throw would work, since a large rock is thrown. The best way that I think this would work well in battle is to inflict a final blow, or used with an item (I can't remember the name of it) that lets the user skipped a turn for two-turn attacks.

The first Pokemon I can see using this move is Blastoise, since it has two cannons on its back and it looks strong enough to lift something three times its size, especially with its mega form.

But this is my opinion.

This move would probably be like the user taking a giant rock and blasting it at the opponent. This move could be used for crushing smaller things like unnecessary sign may be i the way when building something. I think that the Geodude line should learn it since it isn't Rhyperior's signature move anymore, because Geodude, Graveler, and Golem might use this move like Rock Throw and Rock Blast, and maybe Barbacle since it looks like it could possibly use it. In competitive battling, Rock Wrecker is pretty useless because of the recharge and Stone Edge could do more damage in two turns unless it misses. Stone Edge also has a high critical hit rate. In the anime, I imaging it to be a good move to use from a distance, and there doesn't really seem to be recharge in the anime because Sycamore's Garchomp was spamming Hyper Beam with no recharge and more than 5 times, its usual limit.
