I think this is a very important issue that should be added to the bulbapedia page, buuut that's just my humble opinion.

What happens when you trade a pokemon over to a different generation that has a different learnset, and go to the move relearner?

Case in point, I'm sort of afraid to level up my Parasect in leafgreen to after 55, because then it won't be able to learn X-scissor (really, person who created bug pokemon moves in the beginning? leech life? annnnnnnd i can't even think of any others...). If I take him to the move relearner in Platinum, will he be able to learn X-scissor?

Thanks!

It doesn't matter where a Pokémon goes. It's subject to the level-up learnset of the game it's currently present in, whether it learns a move by level-up or takes on a move relearner. This has been true ever since the first generation.

In your case, then yes, you can teach Parasect X-Scissor once it's migrated over to the Generation IV side.

Like Pikablu said, it doesn't matter where the Pokémon originated at all. If it can learn the move in the game it is in at a lower level than it's at when it's taken to the move relearner, it will have it in the list. For example: Togepi can be caught at level 23 in DP using the Poké Radar. It'll have Metronome, Sweet Kiss, Yawn, and Encore. In DP and Pt if you take it to the move relearner it'll have Growl and Charm as the moves it can learn. If you do it in HGSS, though, Extrasensory will be there, too.

Similarly, you got a Togepi in HGSS. It's traded over to DP and forgets Extrasensory. Only way to get it back is by move relearner-ing in HGSS (which I wish I knew where it was).

No, no. Learnlists that are different between DPPt and HGSS don't let you relearn the move no matter the Pokémon if it's unable to learn it in the game. Togepi couldn't learn Extrasensory in DPPt. Therefore the move relearner won't be able to restore it if you deleted it accidentally or not, unless it's traded to HGSS and relearned there.

Okay, I misread. I thought you said Extrasensory Togepi forgets its move when traded.

Has that ever happened? Charizard can't learn Fly in RB, but can in YGSC. Trading back to RB doesn't make it forget Fly though.

I thought you had to delete those moves that couldn't be learnt in Gen I when trading back from Gen II.

this is completly off topic has any one ever questioned y rydon can learn surf?
can any outher rock or ground learn surf. hit me bavck if you know.
sorry bad speller

It seems to be a trend with Pokemon like that, all fully evolved, Ground/Steel/Rock-y Pokemon that look similar to Rhydon can: Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Tyranitar, Aggron, Rampardos, Garchomp and Rhyperior (well, that one's its evo).
