I was wondering about this, the move in "Tentacool and Tentacruel" where they fired that red beams. Which move was it? Was it Tentacool's poison sting?

Looking and its the only one I see that it can learn. It shoots purple bubble like laser at target. Now if it were something else I would have said signal beam

Tentacool simply could not learn a move where it shot red beams out of its jewels in Generation I. Looks like anime made-upness.

Well, the Tentacool/cruel had been mutated from pollution, right? Could have just been a side effect of that mutation. And we've also seen Pokemon use moves in the anime that didn't become availavble until a later generation (Bulbasaur's Tickle), or moves that they can't learn at all.

There are other techniques a few monsters in 1st generation uses that are not in their entire movepool, TM, HM, or breeding (ie. Bulbasaur's Whirlwind, Raticate's Jump Kick, etc.). They also seem to use monster effects in the old series as well (ie. Pinsir's inability to be blinded, and Sludge as a Special Attack form as it was redirected by Mirror Coat).

Can't explain about Tentacool's laser beam technique though. I guess I'll go with Matkin's theory on this one.

Don't forget the Tentacruel also mind controlled meowth and made it talk. And I know theres no move like that! So the beams are the least of it, so just pretend the beams are hyper beam or supersonic :p

Hmm. If that's the case, they should know Psychic-type attacks (at least Psybeam, because that's what it looked like to me).
