Hey guys, I want help picking out moves for my Pokemon, but anyone else can ask for the same in this topic. It's been a while since we had "rate my team" stuff here, eh? I want a semi-competitive (IE - decent, but not something that requires a ton of chain breeding or HP crap) team.

Anyways, I'd like some help, since I'm not very familiar with Generation IV moves:

Empoleon
* Surf
* Drill Peck
* ?
* ?

Rampardos
* Earthquake (Cuts through Levitate FTW!)
* Rock Slide
* Return
* ?

Abomasnow
* Blizzard (take advantage of its eternal Hail effect)
* Energy Ball
* ?
* ?

Skuntank
* Flamethrower
* Night Slash?
* Sludge Bomb?
* ?

Vespiquen (to be switched out for Togekiss post E4)
* Confuse Ray
* Toxic
* Attack Order?
* Double Team?

Luxray (to be switched out for Magnezone post E4)
* Crunch
* Thunderfang
* Roar
* ?

Togekiss
* Air Slash
* Aura Sphere
* Shadow Ball?
* ?

Magnezone
* Thunderwave
* Gyroball?
* Thunderbolt
* ?

Any help here, please? I like to have the movesets planned out in advance, so . . .

Let's see...

First of all, I'd recommend teaching Empoleon Ice Beam. No Water-type should be without it, despite Empoleon's ability to resist Grass-type moves with some degree of efficacy. For move 4...hm...what's it called...Luster Cannon? TM 91, an 80 power Steel-type move. But then again, Magnezone needs it...perhaps Rain Dance as a default.

Rampardos doesn't need much else...maybe Brick Break for Normal-types or Swords Dance.

Abomasnow could use a physical attack or two. If you're strained for moves, try Wood Hammer, as it will at least give Abomasnow a physical option and a special option for Grass-type moves. After that...Shadow Ball, I suppose, though Water Pulse might be a good idea.

I'm not up on my English attack names, but if one of the moves you suggested for Skunktank was Dark Slash, go for it, as it's a solid choice with STAB. I'd try to avoid SA, or at least relying heavily on it, as its not as impressive as Skunktank's ATK. Otherwise...Explosion's good.

Vespiqueen could do with Attack Command and Aerial Ace for the third and fourth moves.

I'd teach Luxray Iron Tail, to deal with the likes of Rhydon and Golem.

Togekiss could have Shadow Ball if you pass on it for Abomasnow. Also...hm...Flamethrower's probably wise, for defense against Ice-types if need be. At least Fire Blast, I'd say.

Magnezone needs TM 91, it allows Magnezone to defend against the all-too threatening Golems and etc you'll encounter.

Hope I've helped.

Hmm... I may not be a qualified moveset analyzer, but I'll give it a try:

For Empoleon I'd suggest:

*Surf
*Flash Cannon
*Ice Beam
*Grass Knot

The reason I suggest Grass Knot is to counter fellow Water-types.

Rampardos should have:

*Stone Edge
*Earthquake
*Brick Break
*Return

Stone Edge is stronger than Rock Slide and the chance for a Critical Hit>Flinch because you can score a critical hit on a Pokemon that switches in. Well, that's what Serebii said on his Gen 4 PotW article on Tyranitar.

Abomasnow:
*Ice Shard
*Blizzard
*Energy Ball
*Shadow Ball

Ice Shard is there just in case you want to be able to attack first for when up against something that may be weak to Ice and/or Grass moves but may carry a move that Abomasnow doesn't want to be the receiving end of (such as a Salamence with Flamethrower). Shadow Ball is filler.

For Skutank:
*Crunch
*Poison Stab
*Explosion
*Shadow Claw

You could consider this for Vespiquen:
*Defend Order
*Attack Order
*Heal Order
*Toxic

If you want, you could replace Defend Order with Power Gem to counter Poison types and fellow Bug types.

Perhaps Luxray can have:
*Spark
*Crunch
*Ice Fang
*Quick Attack

Spark is slightly more accurate than Thunder Fang, so it may be a better option. Ice Fang is so the the likes of Torterra won't be able to wall it. Quick Attack is for picking off weakened foes.

For Togekiss:
*Thunder Wave
*Air Slash
*Aura Sphere
*Shadow Ball

A Thunder Wave/Air Slash combo (along with Serene Grace and a King's Rock) can really torture an opposing Pokemon. Aura Sphere and Shadow Ball are for when up against Pokemon with weaknesses against those types.

And finally, Magnezone:
*Protect
*Thunderbolt
*Flash Cannon
*Tri-Attack

Protect if your not sure whether or not the opponent has something that could send Magnezone to scrap heap and either switch out or stay in play depending on the situation. I basically just picked Tri-Attack as filler move.

I'd ask for other opinions at Smogon, but they keep on going down, so . . .

So far I've got:

* Empoleon (Surf/Ice Beam/?/?) - Grass Knot looks like another weird move like Seismic Toss that doesn't get Stab, and I'd rather not rely on it. I'm considering Rain Dance.
* Rampardos (Rock Slide, Return, Brick Break, Earthquake) - Stone Edge is OK, but the lack of PP kind of sucks, and it's less accurate anyways.
* Abomasnow (Blizzard, Energy Ball, Shadow Ball/?)
I'm considering an Ingrain/Substitue combo in place of Shadow Ball to try to deal with its many weaknesses, but I'm not sure how well that'd work.
* Skuntank (Night Slash, Explosion, Sludge Bomb, Iron Tail) Iron Tail is mostly filler. I think I like NS better than Crunch, actually.
* Vespiquen (Confuse Ray, Toxic, Attack Order, Aerial Ace/Defend Order/Heal Order) mostly annoyer. Haven't decided on the last move. Which one would be the best out of the three?
* Luxray (Crunch, Spark, Roar, Quick Attack). I hate breeding and this is mostly a filler Pokemon, so Quick Attack is filler.
* Togekiss (Thunderwave, Air Slash, Aura Sphere, Flamethrower) Sweeper and Serene Grace taker-advantage of with burns, paralysis, and flinches.
* Magnezone (Magnet Rise, Flash Canon, Thunderbolt, Metal Sound) Special Sweeper. Magnet rise for defense against Earthquake and MS to deal with anyone not weak to its STABed moves.

If anyone has any better suggestions about Empoleon or Abomasnow or any comments, feel free to add, please. And thanks everyone for the help.

magnezone

hey, just thought i'd suggest this moveset for magnezone coz i saw it used by another trainer and it seemed really effective

magnezone:
magnet rise
rain dance
thunder
flash cannon

magnet rise to negate ground attacks, rain dance serves a dual purpose (1. it makes thunder 100% accurate and (2. it halves the damage done by fire type moves. This would make magnezone weak to ONLY fighting type attacks, SCORE!! finally, flash cannon is in there for some good ol' STAB-by goodness and to feed off of magnezones enormous special attack.

If you get a chance, i strongly recommend you try this moveset out.

cheers

I strongly urge you not to use steel type moves on if they aren't STABed. Also, I'm an amateur battler, so I might make a mistake or two.

For Empoleon, no physical moves period (Maybe Earthquake for those pesky Electric types). The Metal and Shadow Claws are really novelties... Also, do you have a Petaya Berry?

Empoleon@Petaya Berry/???
-Surf/Hydro Pump
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
-Substitute(If you have Petaya Berry)/???

For Abomasnow, you know that the Hail from Snow Warning will last the whole match, right? That'll only change if another weather change is used. I suggest not using a substitute/ingrain combo. You'll waste two turns, and Protect is better because it can stop the switch out by Whirlwind or Roar, make your opponent sit in hail and stop all incoming damage. I guess Substitute and Protect works.

Abomasnow@Focus Sash

-Blizzard
-Protect (Muy divertido, no?)
-Substitute
-Wood Hammer/Energy Ball/Seed Bomb

Actually, If you want in-depth help, go to the RMT thread.
