According to this, the Japanese release of Movie 11 recently was added to the Guinness World Records for "Greatest advance sales for an animated film" after pre-sale ticket counts totaled 2,384,198 Japan-nationwide. The second Pokemon-related record with the first being due to the Porygon seizure incident.

Now I know how good it did in Japan, nice to know that the movies can still draw in it's Japanese audience and break records.

Yay thats the second time they got in

third if you count Highest Video Game Sales with Pokemon Ruby in first place

That movie was sooooooo awesome and worth it it finally got the respect it deserves

But I bet 12th movie is gonna ultimately surpass that because it has all the legends in it including Arceus

This is really awesome. It was kinda sad how Porygon was the only Pokémon-related world record.

Wow I guess people really want to get Arceus, or just to see it in action.

Whoa, so that's how popular the anime is in Japan.

Eventually Pokémon is going to become the best-selling video game franchise ever. It's only losing 186 million to 210 million to Mario, with his 10 year head start.

Anyway, it's nice to see that Pokémon is doing so well in Japan. Long live adorable dogfighting!

I'll be honest, but the anime kind of takes advantage of human nature, much like the old gladiator fights. Humans sit back and tell their animals to beat each other up, while thousands of people watch for fun. Pretty sure that's a factor when it comes to its popularity.

Dogfighting (and any animal fighting)'s illegal. But hey! No one said that also applied for cyberspace!

Cool.
That movie sucked, too.
I wonder how Arceus: To a Conquering Space-Time will do.

Peta did complain about that at one time doing the popularity of the show in the west.

Hmmm....I'm starting to think Japan likes Pokemon over Mario....and I might be right.... :)

Movie 11, which I thought was the worst movie of the Diamond and Pearl trilogy, happened to be the only movie yet to actually maintain some Guinness record.
Movie 12 should be better- after all, it has Arceus and Gizamimi Pichu in it.

And here is the proof that Pokemon, no, any anime in general is much more popular in its home country- Japan- than anywhere else.

Maybe we'll see another U.S. theatrical release in the future for one of the later movies. Hopefully the localization team won't get carried away like the did with the first five movies.

Not trying to be negative here, but a major part of those ticket sales could have been to get the event Pokemon and the movie could just have been a afterthought. If that is the case, Movie 12 could easily overtake Movie 11.

Yeah, you're probably right.

Um...duh?

I thought that was a given.
