First off, pretty much everyone and everything is off model. There's no Melody. There's no Shamouti Island. There's no Team Rocket even though they're on the cover. And Jirarudan is a raving lunatic psycho who acts more like Baron Alberto on uppers. And I'm pretty sure he dies on page 19 (which, by the way, is BEFORE Lugia appears).

Also on page 19 there's an Ancient-style card...but it's sure as hell not Mew. It's something quite disturbing and continuity wrecking.

And there's a flying Geodude on one of the pages. Watch for it.


...so they dropped Toshihiro Ono for *this* guy? AND brought this guy back for the adaptation of 3?

I have one. Somewhere. It's where the pic of Vicious punching Ash in the face comes from. I haven't seen it in years and I think it's in a box in the storage room. I've been meaning to look for it though.

Made of win? I was thinking more made of PURE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES. With everything being so off-model, it's a wonder the artist could draw the Hikoukyuu so well.
 
Um...the manga artist has no obligation to be on-model with the animated movie since he/she isn't working on the actual movie.

Calling the artwork in the manga "off-model" is quite a misnomer.
 
Still, he could make them look halfway decent. Lugia's supposed to be majestic, dammit! Even when it's giving the thumbs-up in Golden Boys, it still has some sense of majesty. But here it just looks deformed.
 
Lugia looks fine. You need to stop being so damn picky.

Also, Arshia (Shamouti) Island is indeed in the manga. It's mentioned on page 12 as the island that everyone crash landed on and again on page 26 when Orchid-Hakase is giving his interview for the TV people.

Also, the Kenji scene that was cut from the dub is included in this adaptation as well :D
 
But it's not shown. And if that's the island they crashed on, that means that it consists either only or primarily of the shrine. Rather than, you know, having a sizeable tourist-attracting city on it.

Kenji does *more* in this than he did in the movie. In the film, he predicted the explosion, but that was about it. He still looked kinda surprised when it went off. But in here he's all badass and grabs everyone out of the way.
 
We...kinda see the rocky edge of the island on Page 12...

They probably cut it out from the manga because the artist didn't feel like he'd have enough space to fit it in. Plus, he knew he wasn't going to have to finish the thing, so he wouldn't have to worry about silly things like "plot resolution."

But, y'know...he probably could have fit more in if he hadn't made every other page a gigantic two-page spread :/

Yeah, but...

Well, one of the main complaints people have about the dub is the title of "Power of One" when, they point out, Melody does half the work and basically acts as a catilyst along with Ash. But in here she doesn't even exist, so this story, if not the movie, *is* more of a "power of one". Which really shoots itself in the foot, considering the aformentioned half the work.

I agree with BlackJack, the art sucked. It's not that it didn't look like the cartoon, (cause I rather it didn't actually) it's that it sucked. The lugia on the last page was shit, it looks rubbery.
 
Where can I find all the other movie adaptions? (For the Bulbapedia Manga Project)
 
I have no idea. I posted the first and the third elsewhere...and I have the fourth SOMEWHERE but I haven't been able to find it in years, as I've said before. I'll check the crawlspace, because I think it's still packed away from the move (four years ago).

And then there's a 5th movie one from CoroCoro, but I didn't get it when I had the chance and now I kick myself for it.

I'm pretty sure 2, 3, 4, & 5 were all done by the same person...although their art improved greatly later on (and they didn't, as far as I can tell, make anyone as MASSIVELY OOC as NotJiri is).
