Not sure if there was a topic about this, but I was wondering if there are any techniques one can use outside of their original purpose. We could try making a list to help improve each others skills.

The only one I can think of right now is lampshade hanging also being used as foreshadowing.

For utilities, you mean tropes?

Re: Multi-Purpose Utilities

Hmm... I don't really understand. Tropes, utilities, techniques? Can someone explain please?

*has never visited TV Tropes*

Re: Multi-Purpose Utilities

I, personally, had never heard of these things as "utilities".

Also, Kyuujux, it's OK if you have never visited TV Tropes, but many people here have found inspiration and help in their pages, so perhaps you should plan a visit ;-)

I would visit, but I that problem here is, what is a "TV Trope"?

From their main index, a trope is a storytelling device or convention. For example, a hero rescuing his damsel from a tower guarded by a dragon, with the sword his old master, who is now dead, gave him to defeat all the evil in the world.

As you can see from all the links, absolutely everything in a storytelling medium can become a "trope", and you're sure to find advice on how to pull more original stuff from reading about how each trope is used in several works (anime, manga, comics, film, literature, videogames, etc.), which is what TV Tropes (which originated as a page of tropes seen on TV shows only, hence the name) offers to all its readers for free.

That's interesting; I might have a look when I have the time. Thanks!

EDIT: Oh my god, these are too many links! Very specific...

Re: Multi-Purpose Utilities

Shoot, is the ability to edit the title of a thread gone or is it altered? In hindsight, utilities is rather confusing. As for techniques, I guess I should've referred to literary techniques. Sorry.

I have edited the title now. And the option is in "Edit Post" > "Go Advanced", OK? ;-)

Officially part of my sig now XD

Anyway, you can still edit the title of a thread.

EDIT: >.< Ninja'd. I should have thought that one through, having eaten dinner before replying.
