My friend's "dream team" as he calls it

My friend is currently playing Diamond for the first time. He's just got onto Route 216 for the first time.

His team is

Lucario
Dragonair
Metang
Gabite
Shelgon
Pupitar

All in the mid-30s. I don't know moves or natures, he doesn't make them hold items (as far as I know), and he's not EV training them.

This is ingame, but he'll probably want to go competitive eventually.
I think it's a dumb idea, but what do you reckon, Bulbagarden? Is he wasting his time?

 

[Versityle]

He's got three Pokemon which will evolve into pokes that are double weakness to ice, the same three that are weak against dragon moves. He also has two Pokemon weak against fire. It might be good for the elite four but if he's thinking of going competitive, he's in trouble.

A user of pseudo-legendaries, is he? He needs to know: Just because you use all 5 pseudo-legendary Pokemon doesn't mean he's the best. In fact, they've become very predictable, and if you focus on them, you're doomed.

A good infernape would mke easy work of lucario

Dragonair if evolved or as is, ice beam or blizzard would do to take it out

Metang when evolved, infernape would do the same like lucario

Gabite when a garchomp if you knew whe you were doing, it would not be hard to beat, guessing its the strongest in the team if right moves and stats.

Shelgon - ice beam/blizzard would make easy work of it

Pupitar - a grass move like solar beam or frenzy plant would take it out not so hard when evolved to Taranitar or even as a pupitar.

Yeah even if he does end up evolving everything, it still sucks. At least the whole team isn't raped by Tyranitar's Sand Stream. It really just looks like he threw some stuff together, and although this team might beat some people, it would only take a little bit of strategy to completely shut it down.

Pretty much any team can work well in the games, but competitive battling is completely different.

Fully evloved, with the right natures, EVs, and moves, all of those Pokemon are good. But they don't necessarily work well together. Too many weaknesses to the same types. Three of those Pokemon have a double weakness to ice, one has a double weakness to fighting, and two more are weak to fighting.

I know, it sucks. He's obsessed with pseudo-legendaries, and I'm going to take great pleasure in whipping his ass when he finally gets his team to level 100. Muahaha...Bidoof will die...
