my little pony referance in pokemon black and white?

I think its just a pony. Like is ponyta a reference to MLP just cos its a ponyta too? I dont think so.

Coincidence. Pokémon doesn't predict fads. Besides, hasn't MLP been around since the early 90's?

Yes, but ponyta is more of a realistic repersentation of a pony (exept for the flames of course) but keldeo looks the art sstyle of friendship is magic instead of a pony IRL

Nope. Remember that Pocket Monsters Black and White came out in Japan before Lauren Faust's My Little Pony debuted.

What has Chuck got to do with anything?

*Facepalm* Chuck norris was the referance, and they did it before it got popular to make chuck norris jokes

I said Predict, as in make the referance before it existed.

But that has nothing to do with Chuck from Cianwood. When people make that joke they don't say Chuck from Pokémon... etc., they say Chuck Norris... ect. And I don't think the name Chuck was inspired by Norris, I think it means literally chuck.

Pokemon Black & White: September 18, 2010
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: October 10, 2010

That's 22 days difference. Even taking into account that they may have heard of it before it started airing, Gamefreak likely froze development in order to assure there were no mistakes before the final version was shipped out. It's what most major software companies do to avoid creating new bugs in the code-base. Even then, you need to add on time which Gamefreak needed to manufacture the games and ship them out to distributors.

The generic line about a little girl wanting a pony is a lot older than both franchises. Also they don't know about western franchises especially when it's fanbase is a little unmain stream I dont think this fad could exist any where else.
Also the above dates. I'd close this thread if I were a mod.

And how could they possibly have predicted something like that before it existed? If GF have prediction skills at that sort of level, then they should do something worthwhile with it - not predict that MLP, which was an old and quite pathetic franchise, would make such a huge and unforeseen comeback to massive popularity and then design and base a pokemon off of it.

Actually, if GF have prediction skills of that level, then I think it's fair to say that they are probably God.

Do remember that they are japan. you know, who gets everything first before everyone else.

And? MLP is American-made (afaik), so why would Japan get that before America? Also, the dates given a few posts above show B/W being released before MLP even premiered, so unless you mean Japan got a time machine before everyone else, therefore GF can time travel, I'm not seeing your point?

Edit: Also, Wikipedia's article on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Little_Pony:_Friendship_Is_Magic has listed which countries it's aired in, and Japan isn't even on the list. So to them, it probably doesn't exist (unless Wikipedia is wrong, which quite often it can be).

Look, maybe one of the people working at game freak was a fan of the show before FIM and maybe heard about while he/she was in america or somthing.

BTW: im closing the thread soon, im really not appreciating the constant negative feedback and bickering.

You also have to remember that all of the musketeers are based on quadrupedal grazing mammals, and Keldeo is supposed to be a Celtic mythological water horse (kelpie).

If you post an idea, expect there to be some people who disagree with it.

Anyways, onto the topic...no, I don't think that Keldeo has any correlation to the recent popularity of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Pokémon Black and White came out in Japan on 18th September 2010. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic debuted on 10th October 2010 - a month later. Both of said new instalments would have been in secret development for quite some time beforehand (we know that Black and White entered development in 2006). In terms of the design of Keldeo and MLP's ponies, yes there is a coincidental resemblance. Why? To put it simply - they are horses, designed to be cute. Keldeo would have been planned all along to be the star of Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsmen, so it would need to be cute in order for merchandise to be appealing to Pokémon's younger audience. In terms of design, Keldeo is derived from the Kelpsy of Celtic folklore; a horse that dwells near rivers who lures people in and drowns them, as well as the French novel The Three Musketeers (as are the Sacred Swordsmen, Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion). Besides if anything, My Little Pony is referencing Pokémon.

As for Chuck from Pokémon Gold and Silver. There is no way that his name is a reference to the Chuck Norris meme (or some kind of psychic prediction that about 10 years after the game was released, people would be joking about Chuck Norris). A reference to the actual person though? Well, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan are references to Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, so why not?
