My theory on Heatran

There was a topic on Serebii and I think it'd be interesting here.

Have you ever wondered what Heatran's purpose was for?

What about it can have ether gender?

Or how about why's it eat dirt?

Well, this is my theory for Heatran.

Over 1,000 years ago people wondered why volcanos erupted. Most people were afraid to go check, but there were two people, whom we will call Jake and Bill, were too curious for their own good.
So, one day they decided to go up and check what's up with Stark Mountain. They woundered around, in what seemed like a maze that took forever to get to, found a cave like hide away.
As they looked they saw a strange creature, whom was nameless at the time, sleeping. They also picked up a (whatever that item was called). All of a sudden they heard a roar and the creature woke up. What happened after that? Well, let's just say Bill and Jake are in a better place, because after that item was picked up Heatran caused the eruption.

That is my theory on Heatran. As, for why does it eat dirt/genders?

I think over 1,000 years ago Heatrans ruled Stark Mountain (that explains why they have genders, they could breed at one point in time.) By the time 1,000 years passed they were near extinction. They were so close to extinction only one remained. The last Heatran was so scared it made (whatever that mystery item was called) for protection.

Also, over the 1,000 years Heatran could only eat dirt, because they were only used to that (you don't get much else in a cave if you're a Heatran and wild Pokemon run in fright if they sence your presence.) Also, it's digestive system probably couldn't take anything else, since all Heatrans' digestive systems were use to was dirt.

So, that's why I think it's a legend ( Barely anyone's seen it and you're very lucky if you see it and escape with your life.) That's why I also think you hardly ever hear of eruptions in the Pokemon world, because no one dares to go up and risk their life to see the suppose to be legend.

I think it's main purpose is to protect the Pokemon at Stark Mountain from poachers; for it doesn't want them to become extinct just like his/her's ancestors.
 
Mmhmm, yeah, makes sense. Short story is, it's a volcano god, but hey, I like yours too, XD

Thanks! It'd be funney if Nintendo went on the internet and came across some ideas and they actually liked it. You know since Heatran doesn't really have an oficial purpose yet.
 
To be truthful, Heatran is the only one of the new pokemon (and AMbipom) that I really don't like. I don't see a purpose for him and they already shoved so many legends down our throats that his purpose is lost.

I see him/her as a being that lives in the lava of a volcano and comes up only to feed, which cuases an eruption of the volcano. I suppose it's his job to protect the volcano, but as he lives in lava, he is unable to see what's around him, which is why the magma stone was given to him by Arceus; so it could give off a wave through the lava when danger came so that he could come out to protect the volcano.

If a Heatran is out of the lava for too long, he would harden and ultimately die. I assume that there is a Heatran for every volcano, but because of the hardening thing, many died protecting their volcanos and now only a few remain.

Something like that...
 
so when a heatran errupts a volcanoe an entie is born? are heatran the parents of entie? or was the orriginal pokemon in burnt tower a heatran
 
I always thought that Heatran was just guarding the Magma Stone from intruders. Perhaps the Magma Stone is some kind of sacred artifact?
 
To me Heatran is just a legendary, but I love the idea of it being a volcano god.

Wait... it already is. Isn't it?
 
Legendaries don't have to have purposes. Look at the Legendary Birds. Any purpose they have pretty much stems from the second movie, and even then that was only those three SPECIFIC birds, which are said to be stronger and larger than others of their species.
 
In my opinion, Heatran was created by Arceus to control volcanoes.

Lets say, when it was just Arceus on Poké-Earth, after he created all the Legends, the Stark Mountain Volcano (is there one?) wouldn't stop erupting, and it was destroying the surrounding area. So Arceus had to quickly make something to control the Volcano, but because he needed to make it so fast, he didn't make it genderless.

I have no idea.
 
That's a nice theory there. It's nice to have a volcano Pokemon actually involved with volcanoes. Entei only causes eruptions. Heatran guards them! Or, well, the one at Stark Mountain, but yeah.

My theory on Heatran:

It was a random wild Pokémon for the majority of the game's development, no more special than Torkoal, until some Gamefreak higher up decided "THIRTEEN LEGENDARIES THIS GEN IS NOT ENOUGH. WE NEED MOAR LEGENDS. MAKE THAT THING A LEGEND NOW."

ooor like Takato says the volcano keeps Erupting (lets say after Ho-Oh makes Entie) and he keeps erupting that volcano so Arceus soon has enough of it so he makes Heatran to stop Entei from Exploding that Volcano again so Heatran is made as a counter Balance to Entei's destruction and The Magma stone acts like an Entei-Dar to tell him how close he is (via how much heat it gives off maybe
e.g cold = millions of miles away
boiling= WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE GET YOUR ASS IN GEAR AND GO STOP HIM!)
