Mystery Gift problems and also Chatter

I can't seem to access Mystery Gift. I do everything http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mystery_Gift says to do and I don't get anything (and before anyone asks, YES I saved after giving him the phrases).

And I was wondering if Chatter, once recorded, can ever go back to being the default noise. Because I can't get any recognizable sound to record, so I'd like to keep it Chatot's default noise, but I keep accidently hitting "Chatter" in the menu screen, and it doesn't let me not record anything. So I turn the game off, and tonight I lost about 20 minutes of game time from that.

this really should go into the simple question answer thread...

im not sure about chatter, but for the mystery gift did it appear on the start screen or did it just not work. the mystery gift can only be used at a nintendo special event or with a friend who has recieved the gift.

chatter resets when you store chatot in the PC.

besides, will yelling at the top of your lungs with your mouth over the DS mic (not touching the DS, but i mean yelling into the mike at close range) will make Chatter more effective?

It didn't appear on the start screen, and the guy I gave the phrases to didn't say anything about getting me anything (as Serebii's page for it said he would).
