Think they'll bring back the old Mystery Gift feature where you just get a random present from a friend?

I can see them adding that feature back in on the HGSS Mystery Gift. Perhaps they'd even put a wifi option for it where you just get a random gift from Nintendo or exchange gifts via Wifi.

Don't they have some sort of Mystery Gift in DPPt?

Yeah, but limited to only events/PBR prizes, not the random gifts like GSC. I think its a good way for them to give a chance at nore rarer TMs or evolution items. Though, the Pokewalker just may be a substitute for the 'random item' thing.

Not a bad idea actually. But in GBC that was handled through the IR-port on the GBC, how about over WI-Fi?

I'd say local wireless is more likely. I mean, you could mystery gift with some random guy across the globe, but what'd be the point? All you'd need is a wi-fi access point.

Yes, local is more likely, if the feature is returning at all, but I can hope can't I? Besides, no one I know is going to be playing the game anyways.

Yeah, this feature was very useful and it makes it easier.
Although you can still trade some shitty Pokemon holding an item, I would think item gifts would be much more simplistic.

That's not actually how Mystery Gift worked. Mystery Gift gave BOTH players a brand new item when they would link up via infrared signal.

I think that it may be returning-- ever since the Pokewalker, which seems analagous to the Pokemon Pikachu 2, was revealed, I've been less doubtful about returning features. Plus, the Pokewalker ensures that the games themselves have infrared ports, so I expect they could bring it back in pretty much the same way as before.

Oh, well I'll take your word for it, it's been about 9 years since I played GSC on a GBC so I'm a little rusty.

Bear in mind that the PokéWalker can interact with other units via infrared for purposes of trading items (that are obtained within PokéWalker gameplay via Itemfinder and Watts). This certainly isn't identical to the original Mystery Gift feature, but Game Freak might consider it similar enough.

Having said that, the Mystery Gift system introduced in FireRed and LeafGreen had unused data for interaction resembling the Generation II system, though it focused more on battle records than on items. There is definitely room to expand the Generation IV system, but I have to say that I wouldn't be interested unless it supported Wi-Fi communication (which the current Wonder Card sharing feature does not).

I'd kind of like to see Mystery Gift come back Gen II-style. It's not like they don't have the technology to do it. They could still easily have a daily cap like last time (I think it was like 5 people in GSC) and it'll probably be local wireless only unless they have a cap for number of wireless gifts per day too (or make it by friend code only or w/e)

There's already an infared port on the actual cartridges for use with the PokéWalker Mystery Gift system.
