I was thinking - we know that the DPt Mystery Gift still exists in HGSS (from a screenshot showing the Delivery Man in a Poké Mart)

So what will happen to room decorations and such things that used to be obtained via the original Mystery Gift?

You mean stuff like the dolls for the bedroom?
Hopefully, that won't need a Mystery Gift anymore, if it comes back. They could make it like the villa in Platinum, or your mom could just buy all of the gifts. I don't think that they would need Mystery gift to have all of the features that it had in GSC.
Though I wouldn't complain if they returned...

Perhaps the room decorations will become Battle Frontier prizes?

I'm hoping room decorations are more like Secret Base stuff. You just find obscure shops somewhere and you buy decorations.

Seeing that the game card for HG & SS has an infrared port, the original Mystery Gift (the daily kind) will likely return in some fashion.

I was also thinking something like that. If it returns (I hope so), there are a great deal of other possible ways to obtain decorations. Don't worry about that.

Well, I would have hated it. I'm tired of the Underground by now. But that's just my opinion, and it's probably based on the fact that I haven't got any one to play with, so I only use it to dig up stuff.

I believed that some sort of Mystery Gift was on the Pokéwalker with IR communication? I believe we've seen communication between two of them and both receiving a gift?

well, it's already in the pokewalker.
I think ANinyMouse is trying to say that now two DS's can link up in the same way two GBC's could back in the day. (And the DS having built-in wireless will make infrared connectivity as redundant as the GBC's also having link ports.)

Either way, I'd like to see the GBC's gifts return in some way.

Wow, it does? Where'd you hear this?

The PokeWalker communicates with the DS through an IR port, like an old school TV remote. This necessitates an IR port on the HG/SS game card.

Because HG/SS will have the same IR capability as the GBC, daily Mystery Gift, Trainer House and other similar features will likely (and are 100% able to) return.

Yes, these kinds of DS-to-DS features don't need IR to work, but it takes a much shorter amount of time to send small amounts of information through infrared than it does through wireless signals, since no standby connection is needed. Also, for the PokeWalker, it uses less battery power and keeps costs low.

Part of me believes they'll bring back Trainer House & daily Mystery Gift through IR connection if only for nostalgia's sake.

I was talking about the infared port >_>
Oh, sorry then. :unworthy:

I don't think we've seen the actual IR port on the cartridge, but since the PokeWalker has one (Doctor Oak posted a picture of it here), then it's a given that the actual game cart has one too.

I went searching for a picture of the IR port on the Personal Trainer: Walking cartridge, and this is the best one I found:
