Does anyone think that Mystery Gift might function differently this generation? Can we still get Pokemon from the Pokemon Ranger games via Mystery Gift? And how about Manaphy Eggs? How will we get Manaphy to our fifth generation games?

Considering Wi-Fi events aren't going anywhere, I think it'll stay the same.

I'd imagine mystery gifts will stay more-or-less the same; at least on the surface. The inner mechanics might change minutely, but ultimately it won't be too different. I do think Gen V games will look to a different server for their Wi-Fi gifts, though. At least that way, TPCi will still be able to do a Gen IV Wi-Fi event every now and then, even if a B&W one is running at the same time.

As for Ranger gifts, it's really impossible to say until the games are actually released and people test it. I doubt they'd leave that compatibility in-place, though. People can just use the Pokeshift to get Manaphy.

What do you need the egg for? You get no Pokedex entry from that.

If the egg even exists in the coding for the game. The Gen IV Manaphy egg was treated more like a key item in the mystery gift programming than a Pokemon. Movie 9 was probably inspiration for the whole thing. I just dunno if they'd bother keeping a distinctly Gen IV thing for B&W.

If people want to talk about Mystery Gift for Gen IV in general here, though, go for that, too. I can't recall seeing much of that anywhere before.

Just trade the egg from a Generation 4 game to Black and White.

Doubt that would work; as the Pokeshift is more of a transfer function than trading. You can't Pal Park eggs from III to IV; why would you be able to Pokeshift them from IV to V?

Pretty sure it'll run the same. And there may or may not be a manaphy event anyways. You don't know. We don't know. Anything could happen.

im pretty sure it will work much in the same way, seeing as how the 1st event starts at the release of Black and White, and they probably will be on different servers, otherwise people playing the 4th gen still wont be able to connect to the GTS or get any events i dont think Nintendo would just cut them off, however we dont yet know if they might decide to do events over the Dream World or something like that so there could be a regular Mystery Gift Event and a Dream World event running at the same time.

I'd assume that the mystery gift thing will be pretty much exactly the same. I don't see them doing all the wifi events trough the dream world, not to mention its the method they've had to distribute location based events since gen II (correct me if I'm wrong).
On the manaphy egg thing, with ranger 3 coming out not too terribly long before b/w, I would be surprised if they didn't let you move your event pokemon/manaphy egg to the new games.

Well, those games for sure aren't compatible, but you can't even use the eff without a Gen IV game anyways, so it's sort of a moot point.

Keep the Manaphy egg system but throw out mystery gifts and put events in the Dream World.

If someone had no interest in buying a Gen IV game at some point in the past 4 years, I fail to see why they'd even want a Gen V game. But really, you could make that argument for any event-only legendary:

"How do I get Celebi in Gen IV? I didn't own a Gen III game, and never got to download a 10ANIV event?"

Answer? Wait for a Gen IV Celebi event.

So what to do for Manaphy in Gen V? Obviously, wait for a Manaphy giveaway, if there is one. If not, try to find someone to trade with. Gen V isn't going to revolve around Gen IV events.
