Ampharos at Poké Lid unveiling ceremony
The Pokémon Local Acts program has announced five new Poké Lid designs today, which will be installed throughout October and November in Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan. Poké Lids are donations from The Pokémon Company to prefectures, and along with events and merchandise hosted by Pokémon Local Acts, are intended to encourage tourism to various areas of Japan.

Ampharos was appointed as Ambassador Pokémon to Nagasaki Prefecture in part because the bright light on its tail is reminiscent of the area’s many lighthouses. The new Poké Lids feature scenes of Ampharos and other Pokémon at scenic locations in Nagasaki. For example, the Poké Lid to be installed in Shimabara City depicts Daisanto Station, which is famous for being the train station in Japan which is closest to the sea.

Ampharos attended the unveiling ceremony in Nagasaki yesterday, and the new lids will remain on display at the Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture until September 30th, after which installation will begin. These five Poké Lids are designed by Kyoko Umemoto, who has illustrated many TCG cards and Poké Lids for The Pokémon Company previously.
