National Novel Writing Month

(Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but we've got such a good group of writers here that it seemed a shame not to share it with them.)

For all you aspiring novelists out there, who would write if only you had the time...

The world has given you a month to do so! Apparently these people have been doing National Novel Writing Month for 5 years now. The premise is simple: Start writing novel on November 1st. Finish writing novel (175 pages, or 50,000 words) by November 30. No prizes or anything--no real organization--but at least you get to say that you tried to write a novel, and if it's really good you can spend the next 11 months rewriting it.

Fanfics count too, so this gives you a perfect excuse to write that great epic fic that you've been threatening to do. XD

I'm participating! I haven't signed up yet. *should go do that now while she's reminded* It's a good way for me to get away from fanfic for a change and work on something original. I think I know which project to do, too. Had a little rant about choosing one in my livejournal. ^^;

Can we blow off steam/give encouragement/whine and complain in this thread, or is that what blogs are for? Heh. Personally, I'm not aiming for 50k words. That's too much to ask, especially since I just started working. For me, it's still a gentle prod to give some attention to one of my original works.
