Need help making teams

Well, TBH this will probably never get written, but since it invloves stuff I made up I figured this was a more appropriate place to put this than the Pokemon general forums.

I made up my own canon (I do that with every franchise I'm a fan of, make up a bast- er, modified version of it) and I'm trying to come up with teams for the main characters, something I'm not good at. What I need help on:

The character based on Ash catches pokemon that are shunned and overlooked *within the Pokemon universe* (so pokemon like absol would count since it's seen as a bringer of disaster) even when fully evolved, raises them to high levels, and uses their talents in creative ways. Each region after Kanto he also catches a starter. He starts with a pikachu that never evolves, like in canon. So I need...
-Pikachu + five Kanto pokemon
-Pikachu + Cyndaquil/Quilava/Typhlosion + four Johto pokemon
-Pikachu + Mudkip/Marshtomp/Swampert + four Hoenn pokemon
-Pikachu + Turtwig/Grotle/Torterra + four Sinnoh pokemon

Clarissa, the character based on Leaf/beta female Gen I character, is an aspiring researcher and catches pokemon she finds interesting rather than strong ones. Her starter is a clefairy.
-Clefairy/Clefable + five Kanto pokemon

Gary's goal is to impress his grandfather and to that end catches rare pokemon. His starter is eevee.
-Eevee/Jolteon + five Kanto pokemon
-Jolteon + five Johto pokemon

Lyra Kris (I combined the two characters) participates in pokeathlons and catches pokemon that do well in them when fully evolved, one for each pokeathlon stat. Her starter is a chikorita.
-Chikorita/Bayleef/Meganium + five Johto pokemon.

May does contests, so I need pokemon with move pools geared toward each contest category. Her starter is torchic.
-Torchic/Combusken/Blaziken + five Hoenn pokemon.

Wally eventually gets into contests as well. His starter is treecko.
-Treecko/Grovyle/Sceptile + five Hoenn pokemon.

Dawn does super contests, so same philosophy as May's team. Starts with piplup.
-Piplup/Prinplup/Empoleon + five Sinnoh pokemon

Hilda does musicals. I don't know what makes a good musical pokemon...help? Her starter is snivy.
-Snivy/Servine/Superior + five Unova pokemon

Bianca's philosophy is like Clarissa's, she catches interesting pokemon. Her starter is oshawott.
-Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott + five Unova pokemon

Serena...I don't know, actually. Maybe the same philosophy as Ash? Shunned pokemon? Her starter is eevee.
-Eevee/Sylveon + five Kalos pokemon

Trevor catches interesting pokemon. His starter is chespin.
-Chespin/Quilladin/Chestnaught + five Kalos pokemon.

The rest I can do on my own using veekun.

I don't think there can really be a sensible answer to this without knowing what the teams are for. Where's the story? What's the genre? What's the medium, come to that. Those are all basic questions that inform the choice of what pokémon to include and what role they would play in the narrative

It's basically what a hypothetical Pokemon anime would be like if I were in charge of making it. It follows the same story as the games and anime with themes of hard work and friendship/bonds with Pokemon, like the real anime. Same target audience and genre (adventure? fantasy?) as the real anime, maybe slightly older - Ash ages, for one, which is why he retires as main character after the Gen V-based seasons.

Not that I dislike the real anime, mind you, I just like making up my own versions of things. I do the same for all my fandoms. Like I said, this will probably never be written, but since it's being made up by me (with help), I thought I'd post it here.
