I just bought a game link cable and a second Game Boy Advance so that I could trade Pokemon among my game paks. I turned both GBAs on, one with Sapphire, the other with FireRed, both with the link cable already inserted. I spoke to the person in charge of link-based trades, but after the games ask me to wait, nothing happens even after both games have saved.

Can someone please help me here? What do I do when both games are telling me to either wait or cancel trading?

Is it an actual GBA link cable? Have you fulfilled the proper requirements in both games to allow for trading between R/S and FR/LG?

From what I understand, in FRLG, you need to have found both the Ruby and the Sapphire, and have given them to Celio. Yes, I have completed this step.

Ruby and Sapphire, according to Bulbapedia, can already trade with any FireRed or LeafGreen pak that has completed that step.

Looking at the link cable itself reveals two things: One, there's a little switch that needs to be set to "GBA", not "GBC". And two, I don't see the Nintendo logo anywhere on it.

I might also have to ask the person from whom I bought that thing, to see if I need to do anything differently.
