New 30th anniversary Pokémon apparel coming to Uniqlo and its sister store GU

Following their first collection of 30th anniversary merch this year, Japan-based retailer Uniqlo is launching a new line inspired by Generation I pixel art. Uniqlo’s sister store, GU, is also debuting a 30th anniversary collection, this one with a seafaring, summery theme. Both collections are currently expected to launch only in Japan, though may make their way to the US or UK at a later date as Uniqlo’s previous Pokémon collections have. Uniqlo’s new Pokémon merch will arrive in late July, and GU’s on May 22nd.

The new Uniqlo apparel will include men’s (unisex) and kids’ sizes of t-shirts, which feature classic pixel art from Pokémon Red and Green such as the opening screen, the intimidating Mewtwo sprite, and the beloved chunky Pikachu. Four t-shirts come in adults’ sizes XS-4XL and retail for ¥1,990 ($12.63 USD) each. Kids get a different set of four t-shirts, which will retail for ¥990 ($6.28 USD) each.

GU’s new collection is a little broader, with graphic tees and shorts for both adults and kids. The drop features plenty of Water-types and nautical stripes, along with the “Gotta catch ‘em all!” branding, contributing to the mariner theme. All the adults’ items come in sizes XS-3XL and will retail for ¥1,490 ($9.45 USD). Kids’ t-shirts will retail for ¥990 ($6.28 USD), shorts for ¥1,490 ($9.45 USD), and lounge sets for ¥1,990 ($12.63 USD). GU’s collection is available for preorder now at their website.
