With all of the "new" retro games that have came out the past few years like Shovel Knight or Mega Man 10, I would love to see a new pokemon game in the 8-bit style. I grew up with Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal and would love to see a new pokemon game in that form.

I think it would be really cool to see the new pokemon in 8-bit forms or new characters in that style. I've played most of the new games and I just can't get into the 3D pokemon or environments. I guess I liked using my imagination more and having the 8-bit music set the tone.

What do you think? Would you want to see a "new" pokemon game in 8-bit form?

For the record, GSC are 16-bit, not 8-bit. I know that's kinda nitpicky, but it's double the data size, so there's a pretty decent difference between them.

Left is 8-bit, right is 16-bit

Crystal was my first game, and I find that style to be pretty enjoyable. (I've even played some fangames that use it) But for the love of god, Game Freak, please include running shoes if you ever make a return.

The RBY style, on the other hand, I'm really not a fan of bringing back. (especially not the overworlds-I'm not a fan of monochrome) RBY were great steps forward at the time, and definitely a solid starting place for Pokemon, but not something I'd like to see brought back.

Thanks for the comparison, I didn't know that RBY and GSC were different! (been awhile since I played them each).

As someone who grew up in the era of games with such graphics, I have no desire to see new games made like that. Games only looked like that back then because of technological limitations. I can't for the life of me understand why people are attached to that style. I have no attachment.

(Off-Topic: However, I suppose I am also someone who really adores the music of and the archaic woodwinds of the middle ages, Renaissance, and Baroque era. Which for some people I'm sure they couldn't understand that at all... So I have my areas.

Oh, I also prefer the harpsichord over the piano. That's a big one that people can not understand. lol)

I had this idea where you go back to the 8/16-bit world for a side quest in the new game. It'll be a fun way to play on the whole alternate universe idea.

It would be kinda funny if you could play the game system in your room and it plays a little version of the game in retro style. Idk what it could be for, by that would be neat.

Either that, or like @SerenaToAlola mentioned above, if they ever let you travel to some former region for a small quest, putting it in its original style would be a really great throwback.
