ok, i know we havent had it yet, but i was wondering if anyone else thinks it is coming up.

i didnt start really paying attention to the japanese anime until Battle Frontier, right before they started airing Spurt. so, i was wondering if the anime is similar to the dub (we get a new theme song each season... and DP started 9-27-06, and is almost at episode 52 (a year)

together is starting to get old, and by your side is only somewhat fresh because they did the pop-up edition somewhat recently. im so tired of them both...

anyone else think we will be seeing a new theme song by mid-October?

I think that is a given.

And FYI, threads like this should be posted in the anime forum.

I'd say we will have a new theme very soon based on this fact: the last two times they released a theme song album, the newest theme was not on it.

I'd love a new opening! Tired of Together now.

By Your Side is still fine with me. I'm actually still not used to the Pop-Up version so it's new to me. But a new opening would be great! <3

The dub doesn't change openings every season
Every season is 52 episodes exactly - doesn't matter what "saga" or what opening song there is

I think maybe this week's episode will have a new ending (the first version of Dawn's theme was in 23 episodes and until now the second also was in 23 and also they changed to the popup version at a hour special like the one this week... but obviously that may not say anything)

I don't think they'll change the opening so early
AG's first opening was in about the first 70 episodes no? so I guess the same will happen now

Taken from Wikipedia and Anime News Network:

Pocket Monsters Openings

1. Aim to be a Poekmon Master (1-82)
2. Rivals (83-118)
3. OK! (119-193)
4. Aim to be a Poemon Master (Reprise) (194-240)
5. Ready Go!

Pocket Monsters Advanced Generation Openings

6. Advance Adventure (277-345)
7. Challenger (346-380)
8. Pokemon Symphonic Medley (381-410)
9. Battle Frontier (411-441)
10. Spurt (442-469)

Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl Openings

11. Together (470-516+)

Here's what I've noticed. The longet running openings are Aim to be a Poekmon Master (82), OK! (75), and Advance Adventure (69). Each of them were the first openings in relation to a new generaton Pokemon featured in the Anime. They each lasted more than 60 episodes, while all other openings lasted less than 50. So I'd say probably about 15 more episodes and well get opening #12.

Yeah, but what about endings? I wasn't paying attention lately, but didn't hear about any ending change other than "alternate remix"...

And i agree, it's about the time to change OP, alo because "Together" is generally not as liked as the other "first" openings.

Hell yeah! We need new opening. With new spoilers and some foreshadows. I'm bored of Together.

And not like I care but... PUSA you have to change your stupid DP Op, too! But change it to something better ("less bad" would be more fitting). We DO NOT want another pseudorap opening song. We all hate pseudorap!

I hope the new opening doesn't feature Tracey in it, not because I don't like him, but because its a joke that Tracey is featured in the opening when we NEVER see him. Tracey was in D/P 1 briefly and he didn't even talk, what kind of joke is that? Why the hell is he even in the D/P opening when he's never shown?

They also need to effectively retcon things, particularly Delia as well, since we never see her in D/P either, (I imagine the opening was designed during BF time, when we did see those characters), so hopefully its only D/P characters.

One thing the newer AG openings did is they included Harley into May's segment which confirmed him as a important rival, I wonder now if Dawn's segment will include the new rivals not seen in the first one, since only Zoey was featured in the last opening.

Anime and Dub opening

As far as the anime opening goes:

Together is getting old. Given I liked the movie version, but I never really liked Together as much as Aim to be a Master, OK! (which is my favorite), and Advance Adventure (which is my second favorite). All of them were good but Together... Lets just say the first time I saw it I though By Your Side was the opening and Together was the closing. And I still hold that By your Side would make a better opening (despite being Hikari-centric) than Together.

However, I dont think Tracey should be removed. He used to be a travel partner, and it would actually be very nice if they featured a screen with ALL the past travel partners together (Tracey, Misty, May, Max). Delia, Mimey and Oak deserve a spot in the opening just because we see them in each saga, and the picture of Miriam (or Maryanne) and Contesta, Joy, and Suziko should stay in because they make periodic appearances.

But I do see what you are saying with that. In fact, Crystal (i dont remember her real name, but the girl FROM Crystal) has made more appearances lately than Tracey or Delia.

Anyway, and the dub song... IT REMINDS ME OF THE FREAKIN DIGIMON SONG!!! If they played the theme song everytime a Pokemon evolved, I swear the Pokemon dub would sound just like Digimon.

Ill admit, PUSA has done a good job with the anime, EXCEPT for the theme songs. The Battle Frontier theme song wasnt that bad... Just VERY short, and I didnt like how they put clips from the actual show in. I figured that PUSA was going to copy the anime and update the theme song clips everytime one evolved... But I guess not. But if you are reading PUSA... We want a different theme song that updates as the season progresses!

How does the new D/P song sound like Digimon? O_O

"Pokémon: Pocket Monsters! Pokémon are the champions!"

I'd HATE to hear that all the time, but I wouldn't mind the D/P song being played more often. It's grown on me a lot, even though I normally hate rap.

I really like Together much, much, much more. I mean, there's an actual connection between music and the visuals. Plus, using clips from the show really gives it that amateurish AMV feel.

Why does Wikipedia use the incorrect SPP numbering system?

Um...4Kids did the same thing, too. In EVERY opening. In fact, it looked worse in those days because they were mixing digital animation (the OP stuff) with non-digital animation (the episode clips). It was tacky as hell.

What reason could you have for possibly thinking that?

Agreed. I love how we're closing in on the second Sinnoh Gym and still have clips of Ash's first fight with Roark in the opening.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Ookido, Kenji, and Hanako seem to have become what I dub the "Masara Trio". Ookido seems to be an important character despite hardly showing up much (though, if you count those lectures exclusive to the Japanese version, he essentially shows up nearly every episode), so it's not hard to imagine he'd get a spot in most of the openings. They probably figure that if he gets an appearance, they'll add in his two groupies alongside him.

ah, that brings back memories. Remember when people were suspecting that Harley was just gonna be another two-shot character (two-shot in itself being quite a feat, but he'd only go as far as the likes of Imite and Bannai), who wouldn't show up past the Houen Grand Festival? I was so damn excited to see him show up in the Battle Frontier opening, in a splitscreen alongside Shuu (though, I honestly didn't notice him until the second time I watched the opening ^^'), thus confirming him as a mainstay.

Lets just say the first time I saw it I though By Your Side was the opening and Together was the closing.

even though "Kimi no Soba de -Hikari's Theme-" did play at the end of the DP premiere special, it isn't too hard to imagine why you'd think that (after all, Fullmetal Alchemist played its opening theme at the end of the first episode, and both FMA and DP premiered without an intro song). However, what I don't get is how you'd think "Kimi no Soba de" is opening material in the first place. As you probably noticed with Pocket Monsters's other themes (and a lot of anime theme in general), the openings tend to be especially upbeat and fast-paced, both in the music and the animation footage.

Um...4Kids did the same thing, too. In EVERY opening. In fact, it looked worse in those days because they were mixing digital animation (the OP stuff) with non-digital animation (the episode clips). It was tacky as hell.

I personally resent the dub practice of replacing opening footage with scenes from the episodes. All things considered, anime openings tend to look pretty damn good (usually leagues better than animation within the episode), and English-viewers won't find such footage anywhere else, while the episode scenes can obviously be seen within their respective source which they do get access to. I can't help but wonder why Pokemon's openings are changed in the first place (the footage, at least... music's a bit more up in the air), especially now that Cartoon Network's not eating into their air time for extra ads like WB did (on that note, the Pokemon dub is now capable of using a true ending theme).

Disagreed. Maybe not PAB, but all other 4kids openings were perfectly mixed original OP animation + battle footage. PUSA/Taj generally does it like a "fan" with no experience; without any taste. Clips don't match the song, song doesn't match the show. Ew.

What reason could you have for possibly thinking that?

I was thinking that because: Why would we want to see a clip from the Greta Battle in the theme song EVERY episode. Plus, it seemed like they put the clip in poorly, so I thought that maybe after beating a frontier brain, or an evolution, they would update the opening.

Plus, PUSA seems like they are more concerned with the fanbase's opinion that 4KIDS was, and I think a lot of people out there want to see a Dub opening that changes along the way as it does in the Japanese version.

If we do get a new opening, I'll hope for the following:

- A few new capture/evolution spoilers. The second AG opening spoiled Taillow's evolution, Torchic's evolution, and May's capture of Bulbasaur. I hope the second D/P opening reveals something similar

- Confirmation on which of Dawn's rivals aside from Zoey will be major characters. Again, Harley was added to the later AG openings once he became important, so I expect the same here.

- More interesting scenes of the Paul/Ash rivalry

- Don't show any older characters. Seeing Tracey and Delia in the D/P opening boggles my mind. Why bother showing them if they're not in the show? This is a FRESH START, not a series meant to showcase older characters like Battle Frontier was.

And aside from that, I expect Dawn to be more heavily showcased in the second opening than the first.

If by fanbase you mean those 10 and under, that could be true. They don't seem to pay attention to what any older fans, or those who've experienced the show in it's original form, want very much at all.

I've broken through the delusion that they truly care about the fans' opinions; they're just doing it for the kids, and the only reason they switched from 4Kids was because they wanted their products totally under their wing, plus they got another company to do it at a better price.

TAJ does things their own way, not because they're trying to surpass 4Kids, but because they use their own type of sense. They don't cut out seconds or edit needlessly, but they still change the music and use weak theme songs. They're doing what gets them ratings, which could probably be almost anything, and neither TAJ nor PUSA are ever gonna listen to any fan's actual opinion.

That's not to say I don't like the show how it is now, I do. It's just the music thing that still bugs me, plus some of the casting choices (PIPLUP >:<), but I still enjoy TAJ's overall quality quite a bit.
