Notice on the map how there is an area to the west of Cianwood City (or is that Olivine; I can't even remember anymore!) which has been previously unmentioned in the Gold & Silver. Notice six adjacent areas there; roughly square in shape.

Now there is also an orangey-yellow spot west of the Lake of Rage. It appears slightly out of place; more desertified than the rest of Johto. The Map is from the Pokémon itself, so it's all real.

What are these areas?

You can also see the Magnet Train's rails going all the way east, which obviously means there will be Kanto.

I really can't figure out what will these new areas include. The one area west of Cianwood seems like it could be either a Safari Zone or a Battle Frontier, or a special Challenge Area where you get some prizes. It could be anything, but they all seem like they're mapped, so I don't think it'll be a Battle Frontier.

The desert patch above Tin Tower is more intriguing. Either is an special effect to symbolize Ho-Oh, which wouldn't make much sense, or, just part of the background, which I can't really believe either. Maybe it could be a link with another Region. Namely, the desertic Orre. Of course, I doubt it, but who knows? In any case, I hope that whatever it is, they make it accesible.

Also, notice the lack of Battle Tower next to Olivine? Or maybe not... I can see these blotches that look like an entrance door, or a house. But yeah, it's difficult to figure anything out with this rather small map. It just gives you the big picture.

You'll also notice a sort of area on the coast to the right of the National Park. What could that be?

My guess either a Pal Park or a contest place...given the fact there was ribbobs shown, its a good reason to say contests will be in these games.

I'm not sure about the area added onto Cianwood Island. I put my vote in for battle frontier, but some people are saying that they're pokewalker areas. As for the Golden forest, I'm gonna guess that that is where Ho-oh is before it settles on the top of Tin Tower. Maybe there is a Team Rocket event in that forest that upsets Ho-oh, and it goes to the Tin Tower to calm itself.

The golden area is VERY vague. It looks a lot like a forest with a gold glow overlayed on top of it, rather than a forest of gold trees. Something to do with Ho-Oh makes sense though.

And ANOTHER new area, I think; at the lake of rage, there appears to be a sort of winding rivery sort of system to the right. Or was that there previously? I really can remember barely anything about Johto.

You mean that river that runs all the way to the sea? I think we agreed in another thread that it looked like a redo of Route 45 - the route that took you from Blackthorn city all the way to the sea outside of New Bark Town.

@ Gandavien:

Oh, that? That looks like a redo of the maze system that used to be there, except with rivers. I remember that in the Lake of Rage there used to be a small tree maze there, with a cabin at the end of it. That's probably the same thing, but just with water to make it look graphically better.

Oh, I got confused because you said right. Either way, they both look like redos/expansions of existing areas.

That's the original maze that led to the Hidden Power house.

We already know the golden area is a forest of gold trees. In fact, I can see them on my freakin desktop. It's no desert.

And the six areas are what I call a safari zone. Just look close at the areas. Doesn't look like anything but.

Ah. My memory and directions have failed me. :p

In that area, could it be the orange area in the commercial?I may not count on that though.

Alright, after careful analysis of the new map, the following interest me most. Most of this is probably old, but hey. Maybe I'll discover something new.

First of all, the main red area, in the center rightish kinda area. It's the path between Blackthorn and New Bark. It seems they added a river, from the water area behind New Bark. The one you take to get to Kanto.

That brings me to the big, blue circle beside it. Judging by the location, I at first thought that was a small chunk of Kanto. But it doesn't really look like it. I recognize the route you take to Victory Road, but it looks like a small city was added there. Silver Town, ala the anime, perhaps?

Edit: I looked over it again. Nothing new in the blue circle, my bad,

Now the small grey circle in the center. It's the Ruins of Alph, but it kind of looks like it has several more buildings. Maybe they added a small town there? I guess it matches with the whole Arceus and the Unown subplot.

Zooming in, the new area to the left of National Park seems to be a contest hall. Park is a place to show off pretty Pokemon and such, right? Makes sense.

Large gold/red area to the far left. It's got a center, and five sections. My best guess is it's a new Battle Frontier.

I don't feel I need to address the sacred golden forest, since I know it's been addressed.

It seems they put a lot of rework in to the shape of Lake of Rage... Very expanded.

And while waiting for the image to load, I noticed another thing I left unaddressed. Olivine has a new area. Left corner of the beach, you can see some buildings hidden behind a cloud.

If you're up for it, save the plain map image and zoom in and look around. These Japanese artists put much detail on their pictures.

I wonder if Ho-Oh's forest will just be for show or if there will be some way into it?

I'd imagine it would just be for a beautiful view from the top of the tower.

But come on, I just realized I discovered a new area in Olivine, I'm awesome.

I noticed that there's an old man blocking a path next to the burned tower in the trailer. I also saw a screenshot where the old man had disappeared. Maybe he's blocking the entrance to the Gold Forest for some reason?
