Spin-Off New Coro Coro Mystery Dungeon scans

I can make out Garchomp, Steelix, and I think Drapion on the one box...

Looks like atleast gameplay wise it's advanced.

Darn, it looks like Croagunk lost his chance of being a playable character since he's a major NPC it seems (and I thought he'd get it...)

Lolz, Xatu gets demoted to a shopkeeper. =P

I wonder if any of the box art characters are part of the major teams in the game.

I see Gabite, Steelix, Arbok, Drapion....

Anyone know the other character's roles?

The guild area is huge. And there's all those shops, too? I guess we wait for the translators to tell us what all of this is about.

of course, you mean as a starter, right? Because every Pokemon should be playable, just like the last game.

"Team Darkrose" seems to be the name of Skutank's team. Goofy name.

Love Gabite's look. :D I have a new respect for it now.

Hmm, judging my the cover art, I'm unsure of whether I want to get Time or Darkness. Leaning towards Time...

Commenting on the town's scenery, the first game looked like it was situated in a Southwest Asian or African grassland, as all the houses were plant-shaped.

The scenery for Time and Darkness reminds me more of the American Western Frontier, because of Xatu's tent, all the timber laying around, and the lighter screen complexion.

odd... it looks as though the sand-covered Minomucchi is in a forest area. I seriously wonder how they're gonna handle Minomucchi and its evolutions, but from the looks of it, either this Minomucchi hasn't battled in the area yet (which I kinda doubt, since it's apparently the 4th member of the group and would have to have joined in that area... unless they're finally gonna let us take 4 Pokemon into an area now), for some reason this forested-looking area turns Minomucchi into the sand version, or they just let you collect the three Minomucchi as different Pokemon with a set form (in which case, I still wonder about Garmeil's evolution... nonetheless, I would prefer this method, really. In the Diamond/Pearl games, you are capable of keeping Minomucchi out of battle/only battling in their respective areas and keeping a complete set on display in your box... plus, there's plenty of room for these two extra Minomucchi if you're collecting all Pokemon with form variants. I hope the Friend Areas allow something similar, especially as the Friend Areas have a much more interesting form of display ^^).

Where are the Friend Areas shown?

It looks like Loudred wakes you up. Fun.

I make the assumption that Friend Areas will be there based on the last game. That, and you can clearly recruit Pokemon again. Though, with all these maps and screenshots we've been seeing which portray the guild, I wonder when and even if they'll turn up (at worst, the method for changing your party is replaced with an entirely text-based menu system, which would suck major ass after what the previous game gave us... let's hope that Greggle running the mysterious new stand doesn't act as an equivalent to Dragon Quest's Ruida).

on that note, why the hell isn't a Roselia (or one of the members of its new evo line) part of that team? And, funny story, when I first saw that name, I read it as "Dokurous". As in an incorrect plural (incorrect in the sense that English speakers don't tend to add an S to the end of Japanese words) of "dokurou" (whatever the hell that means, though "dokuro" means "skull"), which I read as such because we had English plurals mixed into Japanese writing with the teams in the last game (ポケモンズ "Pokemons" and ワルイズ "Waruis"). I guess I kinda overlooked the fact that Team Kamaitachi and Team Bobbobou don't use plurals (though Team Happies does).

The lack of discussion on these games is extremely telling of their uninteresting premise. Nevertheless, I am surprised that no one has voiced a tone of criticism regarding the decision to release two versions for the same system.

Personally, it strikes me as an ever presumptuous move, which is rendered even bolder by the fact that a Nintendo DS game with largely identical features is already available. After Pokémon Red and Green were released, their alarming success served as merit to create a tradition of two main versions released for every new Nintendo handheld, that is at least three years apart. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue were received with moderate success - the kind that opens room for revisting in a modest form. Under such a form, it would make more sense to "retreat" to a one-version release, rather than to literally force the existence of a second version. I believe that this is even evident in the cumbersome name selection for the titles.

Are we supposed to forget that the reason for releasing two versions, was the support of two different systems? The upcoming games have neither that as excuse, nor the potential to follow the RPG games' suit.

If to make matters worse, it would appear that by the time these games are released, we will have seen seven CoroCoro issues whose coverage boils down to a summary of the previous games.

Bah. We don't know enough about it yet. I'm personally super excited to play another dungeon game! Plus, are they even making GBA games anymore?

We don't even know what is different about the two versions yet. The statement on the back of the boxes of Red and Blue is very telling:
The contents of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team are almost the same. Please purchase either one according to the system you want to use.
If the differences are as minor then there will be reason to question why two versions are being released. But complaining about something we don't even know the details of is pointless.
