Some new details and screenshots on Pokemon GO have emerged since the field test started in Japan, courtesy of Nintendo Everything. More Pokemon GO details and screenshots - Nintendo Everything

  • There will be no battles against wild Pokémon, instead you simply catch them directly using various Poké Balls.
  • Trainers are customizable with different options.
  • 137 different attack names have been found in the game’s code, confirming battle systems. Some of the moves include Flamethrower and Hyper Beam.
  • There are an additional 95 “fast” versions of the discovered 137 attacks.
  • Players will receive a starter Pokémon, though in the beta version this does not happen.
  • A new game function with the name “Starburst” has been discovered – details surrounding it are unknown.
  • References to Google Cardboard, a mobile VR peripheral, have been found within the game’s data.
  • There are three “teams” the player can join: Red Team, Blue Team, or Yellow Team.
  • Only first generation Pokémon exist in the beta; it’s unclear if this will be the case for the final version of the game.
  • There are multiple versions of the defense stat, though the reasoning behind this is unclear.
  • There are seven object categories: Poké Ball, Potion, Revive, Maps, Battle Objects, Food, and Camera. Food and Camera details are unspecified.
  • The following items are the only ones available in the beta: Poké Ball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, Master Ball, Potion, Super Potion, Hyper Potion, Max Potion, Max Revive, X Attack, X Defense, X Miracle, Razz Berry, Bluk Berry, Nanab Berry, Wepear Berry, Pinap Berry, and Special Camera.
  • X Miracle is a new item. Its effects are unknown as of right now.
  • Pokémon Natures are present, but differ from the main games. Currently, the ones found are: Stoic, Assassin, Guardian, Raider, Protector, Sentry, and Champion. Their roles are currently unknown.
  • Microtransactions are available.
  • A day-night cycle is confirmed.
  • Normal, Legendary, and Mythical Pokémon are all present, and Pokémon are categorized as such.
  • There is no evidence of Mega Evolution, however it’s unknown if this is only true for the beta.
  • Supposedly, Pokémon are only allowed two moves during Gym Battles.

It's interesting, to say the least. I'm rather disappointed with its approach, but it's in no way surprising and it's good to get some kind of idea of what to expect.

Well...it's definitely a niche market that seems to be the target if it really is this different...

good thing Sun & Moon are coming!

It's not really surprising. Mobile phones just aren't really the type of platform for Pokemon to best utilize without having to streamline a lot of stuff. The main focus behind it was always about going outside, exploring the environment and collecting Pokemon as an incentive. The trailer might have gotten people's hopes up too high.

Considering Go shares a similar logo (the curvature of a planet) to Sun and Moon... and now Starburst? Masuda did say he was considering connectivity between Go and the main series iirc. Could be completely coincidental but might lead to something.

Considering that Dark exists as a type, I think we can safely assume that there will be Pokemon from other generations eventually. It may not be the case at launch, though.

I sure hope so. Having only Gen I Pokemon in GO would be extremely boring and too much nostalgia/Gen I fans pandering. I'm okay if it's just Gen I Pokemon at launch and plan to add more later, however. :)

Hang on a second. Masuda said that these games will connect with the main series ones, right? If so, with these new natures present, I wonder if GF is doing an overhaul in regards to Natures given to Pokémon in general. If so, then I can't wait to see what comes out of this!

The mobile market is hardly niche.

Indeed. We'll have to see how well designed the game still is, but making it different to serve a vastly larger market than the Pokémon fandom is not, repeat not, "going for a niche market".

I really hope all 7 generations will be available once the full game is out, because I don't want to be limited strictly to just the original 151 and be denied my favorites from the later generations. For some reason I feel like either TPCi isn't happy with the later generations (with the exception of a certain blue dog from Gen 4) or they just want to pander to the Genwunners crowd.

Other than that, it definitely seems like they're streamlining the games for a different platform, such as just catching the Pokemon without fighting them and weakening them (something which virtually every part of the Pokemon franchise, games, anime, manga, etc. knows to do) which kind of omits the challenge of catching Pokemon, and the natures do seem a bit odd to me since they sound more like occupations and abilities than they do natures, which in the main series games, natures had names that were more or less like personality traits.

I don't know how the final version will be, but so far it's quite different from how the games are traditionally.

Here are some additional details, especially regarding gyms. There is some of training, but we don't know what it entails yet.
The way that they described battling gyms seems like the pokemon equivalent of Trivia Crack XD

Maybe videos can redeem this for me, but I'm very turned off by the way it is described to be...it just seems really non interactive which seems against what pokemon is about...that 500 slot egg bag though, Gamefreak bring that feature to the main games!

Pokemon GO might still be able to connect with the main games in different ways. I think when Masuda was saying that, people were thinking along the lines of transferring Pokemon. But it's clear that GO's mechanics are far too different for that to transition smoothly. Or it could just be that Masuda's comment is outdated. Who knows as of yet.

Speaking of videos, there's some brief footage now. A little bit of Pokemon GO footage from the field test - Nintendo Everything

The models are ugly and I suppose Pokemon is aging up their protagonists, I hope they look better and get more options later.

Maybe Pokemon English will translate the new natures differently, like what they did with evil/dark., and the transitions that are happening could be implemented in the new games or not at this point.

These quotes and the information within them seem to make me think that Pokémon GO will have nothing to do with Sun and Moon after all. While I didn't expect GO to be exactly the same, it looks far too different to have any connectivity to the main series games. Also, this game doesn't seem to encourage interaction with others as much as other Pokémon titles have. I wonder what made Game Freak and Niantic come to this decision...

Wait, does Masuda and at least some of Game Freak's staff have anything to do with this game?

"Doesn't encourage interactions with others"...

Most of the information we have so far reflect how the new game handles *single player* aspect of the main series games, how are we judging how interaction with others work from that?
