New Feature-Length Animated Film, “Pokémon: Wild Card”, announced at 2026 World Championships Closing Ceremony — Releases 2027 and beyond

The 2026 Pokémon World Championships Closing Ceremony revealed a great deal of new updates for the franchise, one of them being the first feature-length animated Pokémon movie in years. “Pokémon: Wild Card” is an original story based on the Pokémon Trading card Game and follows an aspiring Pokémon TCG player and Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokémon. The film will be produced by STORY inc. and animated by CloverWorks, one of Japan’s top animation studios, and is announced for worldwide premieres in 2027 and beyond, with a theatrical release confirmed in Japan. Katsuhiko Kitada will serve as director, along with Akemi Hayashi for character design.

Pokémon: Wild Card tells the exciting story of a Pokémon TCG player and his partner Mimikyu. When the time comes to put their cards on the table, will they have what it takes to achieve their goals?
