After a LONG time I return bearing my latest pokémon fanart. It's the new female trainer from the upcoming Fire Red and Leaf Green games. This one took me HOURS to CG... ><;; Maybe I'd retouch it, especially the background. But oh well, I'll let you guys be the judges.

Hey, I like it! ChicRocketJames and I have already quibbled over and discussed chickie's choice of attire at length in the Ru/Sa forum, so I'll just leave it at that you captured it all quite well, in fabulously vibrant colors. Nice shading, the Bulbasaur is undoubtedly appealing, and I like the fact that the outlines aren't too harshly black--it gives a softer appearance overall to the piece. Very nice. *nodnod*

Also, as an afterthought, I really like that tree.

er... what's wrong with her attire? ^^ I think it's cute. Except for that hat. o_O

And that Bulbasaur is so adorable I'm getting a cavity. Again I am jealous of your style and mad CG skillz.

....wait! I know who she reminds me of! Green from the Adventures manga! ooooh, I can't wait to play that game now. ^^

Oh, no, dear, you misunderstand me! I *love* the outfit, and the hat to top off the full ensemble nonetheless (as I said before, it needs just the right outfit to work, and this kid has it). I'd gush about it some more, but like I said before CRJames and I already posted on the subject at length, so I won't get into it again for the time being. Just suffice to say our resident mod captured it well.

*waltzes*

Well, it's nice..

I like the Bulbasaur a lot, it's really cuuute ^^

Though I don't see how you took HOURS to CG this even with a mouse.... The only thing I see that would have taken you a long time would be the outlines, because mouses are evil in giving a nice neat outline (heck, my tablet can't do that either... ;_; and my scanner sucks.... GAHHHH)...

The shading on the girl and the bulbasaur is really quite simple, and actually I think you could do with some subtle darker shades at the very shadowy part of the girl's skirt... and her hair... and her shirt... and arms... and face...

It's an ass to do it with a mouse, but the point is it can be done.. To not get the colouring out of the lines, try doing the colouring on a different layer but select the area you need using the magic wand on the outlines layer... and then go back to the colours layer and then do stuff. I generally do that and then colour in any extra parts if needed.

Though hey, the outline's pretty neat and clean, and the proportions are great too.

The tree looks a little... odd because generally trees don't look like that, and I thought if you'd put so muc heffort into the texture (nice texture btw, it's the most professional part of the picture IMO :) Is this the part that you took a long time to colour?) you'd give it a more realistic shape. Though it is hard to colour it like that for so many branches, so I"m not annoyed or anything (Why should I be annoyed anyway...?!)

The leaves are a little cheap because you used the preset photoshop brush for them, though I *think* that brush was more intended for scattered leaves rather than tree leaves. Who cares ^_^ It gives an interesting effect anyway... (And hey, we're all cheap, I also use the grass brush liberally because I am TOO lazy to draw grass. @_@)

Generally a pleasing picture... especially with a mouse :0

You are right. This was my first time outlining a scanned drawing and it was a pain... ><;

Thanks for the tip. What I do for shading and highlighting is that I create a layer for each color and then for the shading I create another layer above it and select the option "Group with previous layer". That way I don't have to worry of getting out of the lines, because you can only work in the space painted on the previous layer.

I know the shading is very simple and I tried to add darker tones very subtly, but it didn't look as I wanted so I left it as you see it now.

Thanks for you criticism and comments, they're always appreciated, LoD! ^_^

Also, thanks to all of you who reviewed the pic so far. =D

...

You can do that?? about the whole "Group with previous layer" part??

*head bonks on keyboard* Geez, now I *know* that all this time I've been going along, not utilizing this program to its fullest potential and making everything harder on myself than it needs to be. TT_TT I wish I knew more about all the different functions that Photoshop has... it would cut the time I spend working on projects in half at least...

ANd.... <plug>Everyone must start using the Pen tool! It will fist be your biggest enemy, but in no time it'll be your BEST FRIGGIN' FRIEND!!!!!</plug>

Seriously, for lots of things its great, except maybe hair (because hair is kind of an ass too anyway :0) (I can tell you how to use it if you don't know, because the first time I used it, I was completely lost)

And GeneralStar, Photoshop has so many billions of functions and things that I have no idea how to use ;_; But some really do sa ve a lot of time..... I like playing around with Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation :D There's htis picture where I didn't want the eyes to be yellow, I wanted them blue so I just selected the eyes using the lasso thingy, and got that function to change the colour of the yellow.

Colour Range (Select > Colour Range) rules, as well as Select > Modify > Expand : This thing has saved me countless times when selecting a coloured area with fuzzy edges. It never selects the fuzzy edges so I just expand it by 1 pixel and whee!

And brushes... and patterns... and custom shapes... and lighting effects... etc...

*sighs and dies*

Well, I could use some tips, because I'm not too familiarized with that tool. I'll be really thankful. =D

*bonks her own head in time with GS's* You and me both. Does this mean I have to renounce my End of Photoshop Pics again?

If I have a love/hate relationship with anything, it's my paint programs. *runs off to read Didesy's tutorial*

Oh, and GS, where's the topic about Female Trainer's attire? I didn't see it in the Ru/Sa forum, unless I'm a dunce who forgot to check archives, too. Tired dunce. Brain no worky without sleep. -_-

Indeed! Just when I thought I'd finally gotten the hang of using this silly program, here I go learning that I've been doing everything the hard way all along. :embarass: I guess this means we can all learn together now, hah... *laughs at the thought*

And yes, the thread I spoke of earlier is here, I believe. I had my doubts in the beginning, but after seeing those full-body shots I must admit I was sold on it. ^.^

I once again really like your drawing style, and that Bulbasaur looks so cute! :)

(LOL...appropriately ironic for a guy with Tuxedo Mask in his avatar currently to reply to a thread by "Sailor Mercury", isn't it?)
