New game announcement next week? (probably not)

TV Tokyo has posted the summary for the episode of Pokémon Smash, a variety show that covers all aspects of the franchise, due to air next week on Sunday 18th of September. In this summary, it mentions that Pokémon Game Creator, Junichi Masuda is set to appear on the show with a massive shock announcement. While it is possible that the announcement could be unrelated to a new game such as the reveal of Keldeo or the other new Pokémon, his announcements in the past similar to this have ended up being new games. This follows on from Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara hinting that there are more surprises coming this year. If it is a game announcement, it's possible that the reveal of this game will be in CoroCoro, which is due any day now and/or in Nintendo's special 3DS conference in Japan on Tuesday morning. We'll bring more on this, including confirmation on the announcement as and when it comes.

Could this be the announcement of the 3rd version/RS Remakes? Or Something else? We will have to wait and see!

I just submitted an article to bulbanews about an hour before I saw this thread xD My money is on the announcement being Keldeo.

Why? Because first, Junichi Masuda is appearing, so we know it's connected to the main series (as GameFreak don't make the spin offs). Secondly, look at the date. It's September; too late to announce a Pokémon game (considering how every game that isn't RG/FRLG has been released in September-November, announcements are usually around April). However, it's also the first anniversary of Black/White...and the first anniversary of the Victini giveaway.

I had always pegged Keldeo to be unveiled in September. If I'm right, boy will I be feeling cocky.

I think that Keldeo will be revealed in conjunction with the announcement of a new game, as was the case for Zoroark and Black and White. I don't see it being distributed via Wi-Fi for no particular reason, nor do I see it remaining unavailable until next year's movie.

The fact that Game Freak appear to be breaking the mold by not releasing the game in September makes me hopeful the game itself will defy expectations.

The Victini giveaway was a means to an end: getting fans to buy Black and White as soon as possible. Distributing Keldeo to celebrate Black and White's anniversary would be a waste.

@Silktree Well, whether or not it's distributed to celebrate the anniversary or not, I think it's likely that it will be distributed a year after Victini, so we can continue a trend of one a year. At least we agree on it being Keldeo though =3.

As for whether it's a new game or not...I'm still skeptical. I doubt they'd go out of their formula of announcing it early in the year, then releasing it in the last quarter.

Yeah, but remember that FR/LG was released in January 2004.. announced in September 2003.

Now the remakes don't look too unlikely to be released this year!

If to be honest, I think that's silly. If they limit themselves to September releases, that means either rushing through a game's development to meet the deadline or delaying its release by, say, half a year for no real reason. September releases have been the norm since Emerald, but there was nothing wrong with the previous releases.

Well, Yellow was released in September, Blue was released in October, GS and RS were released in November, and Crystal was released in December. Only releases not in the September-December range are RG (February) and FRLG (January). Although, I guess GameFreak wouldn't need as long to hype a third version as much as an original game (after all, Platinum was announced in May and released in September, 4 months later) so if it was announced now, a December release would still be likely.

Still putting money on Keldeo though; regardless of if we get a new game or not.

I really hope it's either the third version or a new Mystery Dungeon (didn't they say something about that just after BW was released?) but I'm not entirely sure how likely that will be.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Keldeo, Meloetta, or Genesect, or possibly all three.

Heads up for the September 13th 3DS conference. There's been a lot of talk for a "huge title announcement". Given that this will almost certainly be a Game Freak game, it concerns 3DS more than anything. My bets would be on a de facto "third version", but certainly not in the veins of previous ones. A down-on-earth Grey would be neither massive not (much more importantly) a surprise. Game Freak might give it a push for an alternative third version this time. At least I do hope.

^^ When you say "not in the veins of previous ones" do you mean like a new Yellow? I don't think it could be another Platinum anyway, there are so many things that made BW different.

No I'm pretty sure FR/LG were revealed first... since they were probibly announced in 2003 so odds are it mioght be R/S remakes... and Ranger... lol look how well B/W has been selling no way they'd cancel Pokemon. it's a literal Cash-cow it'dbe like canceling Mario which of course will never happen.

and I dout they'd announce a side game at a big event like this...
