I'm wondering...

1996 was Red and Green released.
1999 was Gold and Silver released.
2002 was Ruby and Sapphire released.
2004 was FireRead and LeafGreen
2006 was Diamond and Pearl released.

As I has shown here, it takes 2-3 years between each duo main games. This year has it gone 2 years since Diamond and Pearl was first released, which very likely could mean that the next duo (Gold and Silver remakes, anyone?) could be announced this year, and release this or next year

We are already overdue for a new installment: Blue followed Red and Green within eight months; Crystal followed Gold and Silver within 13 months; FireRed and LeafGreen followed Ruby and Sapphire within 14 months. It has now been 17 months and a half since Diamond and Pearl's Japanese release date.

To think that players will undergo two years of playing only Diamond and Pearl without losing interest in the franchise, is mind-boggling. To clarify: Mystery Dungeon and Ranger sequels are poor alternatives.

I agree, if Gold/Silver remakes aren't coming out later this year, then I doubt they're coming out at all.

Logically if they were to be made, G/S remakes could come out November 2008, which would be 2 full years after D/P came out.

Then in November 2009, we could see the third companion game to D/P.

And then in 2010, it could be the first possibility of the 5th gen games making their debut.

So in general, anyone still holding out for G/S remakes better keep their fingers crossed for this year, because I doubt they're coming at all if we're in 2009 and we're still waiting for another traditional Pokemon game on the DS.

The only chance for a new duo to NOT be released this or next year would be if anyone from Pokémon USA would check this forum (yes, they check fansites and stuff like that), find this thread and think "Man, our plan has been found out!" :p

September 28th would mark the second anniversary. That said, while it was nice for Ruby and Sapphire to be released on Gold and Silver's third anniversary, and for Colosseum to be released on Ruby and Sapphire's first anniversary, this time the upcoming release should come as soon as possible (though I tend to believe we are past that point, but the argument stands) rather than artificially be scheduled for an anniversary day.

Then in November 2009, we could see the third companion game to D/P.
Again, there is no reason for such a large space. Emerald followed FireRed and LeafGreen within eight months of their release, which is to say within less than two years of Ruby and Sapphire's release.

So in general, anyone still holding out for G/S remakes better keep their fingers crossed for this year, because I doubt they're coming at all if we're in 2009 and we're still waiting for another traditional Pokemon game on the DS.
This logic is rather flawed. If Game Freak is not developing the remakes, what on earth have they been doing since late 2006 that is not yet prepared to be announced? No matter how expansive a third game is, it remains a logical progression from the main versions, and so should not be kept under wraps for this long.

In other words, if we find ourselves in 2009 without any new installment, the problem will go far beyond whether or not we will get to see remakes of Gold and Silver - it will become a problem of the future of the traditional games in general.

Our last hope is E3. We also got TGS, but that should be too late if the games would be released this year (althrough they, as said in the first post, can be released 2009)

According to PUSA, the possibility of G/S remakes are "highly unlikely".
Yeah, game developers always say that even if they plans to announce it the day after. They always wants to keep it as a secret, and when getting asked 'bout not announced games, they tend to say that.

And also, if I'm right, is it Game Freak who develops the games, which means G/S remakes very well kan be in development, while Pokémon USA, Nintendo and others just has yet to be informed.

chances are if the gs remakes are being made they will be announced sometime over the summer and released in the fall. I have to admit I think its kind of funny how many posts I've seen lately with people worried about the future of the traditional games, Diamond and Pearl have sold incredibly well witch means we will be seeing more pokemon rpgs one way or another. In my personal opinion a lot of stuff in d/p don't make any since from a business prospective unless they were planning on gs remakes.

A far more logical scenario is one in which they will be announced in either April or May (as in spring) and released around September. This would normally be a petty detail over which to argue, but we are so much overdue for a new installment that a month's difference is substantial. I would suggest a summer release date if it were not for the lack of precedent of game releases in that period.

I am more concerned about the "one way or another" part than I am about whether or not we will see them at all. It should be set in stone that we will see more traditional games for this generation, and so the question boils down to the exact path by which this will happen.

In my personal opinion a lot of stuff in d/p don't make any since from a business prospective unless they were planning on gs remakes.
Such as? I am struggling to see what you mean by that, considering that Diamond and Pearl only offer so much more than past games, and those were definitely not designed to be compatible with Gold and Silver remakes.

There are several references that will go to waste if it turns out that the remakes are not, in fact, being developed. I think we can all agree that if it came to be apparent that Game Freak had led us to believe in something which was not to be, then we would be justified to view that action of theirs as nasty. This, however, does not account for making a bad business decision.

I pretty much agree that it is safe to assume that any new installment will be announced by the next few months, and be released by the end of Summer, on this year. The late few months, an inactivity is prevailed in the whole news-community. As expected, Diamond and Pearl enforced a slow news era, the end of which, in my opinion, will be given by the next month.

As pointed out by Unown Lord, it has been too long since we heard about a new main Pokemon RPG. I have to add, that by May 2004, exactly 18 months after the release of Ruby and Sapphire, the first Generation IV Pokemon, Munchlax, was publicaly shown. I suppose it will take a little longer this time, considering that there is no reason for something that big to happen as of yet. A probable occasion, would be the 12th movie, meaning that we'll probably not be seeing a new shadow until after the first half of Summer. Let's not be on a rash anyway.

As for the remakes of Gold and Silver, I can't help it but think that somewhere near May, CoroCoro will announce them. The next issue has great chances, in fact. Oh, and there is no question in whether or not they will be released. Not only due to the fact that there are reports about them throughout Diamond and Pearl, but also because the first "version" of Pokemon, meaning the first two generations, must eventually catch up. By that, I mean that while Red, Green and Blue were remade on the newest version, it would be awkward not to have the second generation games on the set as well. Not to mention that their lack create time gaps. What is most important, however, are some still unexplained events from Diamond and Pearl, such as Agatha's and Bertha's relationship, and other after Hoenn and during Sevii Islands events.

As for E3, don't cross your fingers, Pokemon never gets a serious attention there, since we are mainly updated from Magazines. Don't get your hopes down though, since according to Reggie this E3 will bring many thing to the surface. And anyway, if not for a main Pokemon RPG, probably a spin-off or a new crossover (as discussed much lately - Smash Bros. Kart - Smash Bros. RPG - Smash Bros Adventure, and so on :p) have its chances. Not to mention that we'll probably get to know about a new Zelda, and have the possibility of the well-awaited Wii Hard Disc confirmed.

Anyway, only time will show, I'm really looking forward seeing how this will turn out. :p

And you are the authority to say everyone should think that way?

Not to mention that there are many who actually want these games (Not that I'm buying Ranger 2 anytime soon, but still).

The Ranger and Mystery Dungeon games have nothing to do with Gamefreak, blaming their development for Gamefreak slowing down development of their next game is completely baseless.

It's pretty stupid to go on patterns alone when it comes to releases for most games, let alone Pokemon. There's no need for the developers to stick to these patterns we throw at the franchise - and certainly, I'd rather see the development of a game be based in quality rather than quantity or speed. (Especially if it is the almost inevitable G/S remake, considering that there's a lot that would require improving from the original, especially in relation to Kanto and the overall brokenness of the game). That said, it is really likely that we'll get a game announced this year at the very least, if not released.

I can see them probably doing what they did with Fr/Lg's release with the next game though - announcing them very shortly before release. With no other games in the franchise aside from Pokemon Ranch set for release in Japan for the rest of the year once Ranger 2's out, it would be considered time for Gamefreak to fill that gap themselves and announce their next effort pretty soon. I have a feeling we could probably be waiting until after the movie this summer, though - at least. Generally, the year's movie takes precedence over the rest of the franchise as far as promoting goes as its release nears, and with that and Shaymin's distribution out of the way, it'd make a clear path for focusing on whatever's to follow.

I was stating my own opinion. At the same time, though, I was making an observation: these games have hardly been discussed in the English community, whereas the Gold and Silver remakes and third game to Diamond and Pearl have been exhausted discussion-wise without so much as being announced.

In case you were referring to me, I did no such thing. However, it stands to reason that Nintendo would have long been rushing Game Freak to make their next move if it hadn't been for the spin-off games filling the void (as far as the buzz is concerned).

It is not as though I was suggesting an arithmetic or geometric sequence, or what have you. Expecting a reasonable time span between releases has nothing to do with adhering to patterns.

The problem is that it did not seem as if Game Freak had made proper use of the two years' gap from Emerald to Diamond and Pearl, in order to truly flesh out the then next-generation games; the two-year development of Ruby and Sapphire had been put to better use. It is justifiable to have doubts at this point.

They'll announce a new real pokemon game at E3, and it will come out next summer.

In regard to E3, it is worth noting that Diamond and Pearl were not covered in the 2006 event (despite being unveiled in CoroCoro in the very same month), whereas XD had been covered in the 2005 event. The reason for this becomes clear once the American release dates are taken into consideration: two months after the Japanese date in XD's case (that is, within 2005), compared to seven months for Diamond and Pearl (resulting in a 2007 release date).

I have long considered the possibility that Game Freak and NoA's translation team may be working in unison in attempt to launch the next installment simultaneously in Japan and the United States, or at least as close as possible. This is one plausible explanation for the delay in presenting the project in Japan. If it proves true, the remakes should be announced in an international event (not necessarily E3, given the dramatic change it has undergone), much like XD was three years ago.

On a personal note, I would love for the remakes to precede Ranger Batonnage as far as a stateside release is concerned. Could the remakes possibly push Ranger's non-Japanese release date to a much later point, if not infinity? Would anyone throw a fit if they did?

You know, not everyone shares your ridiculous vendetta against spin-off games, so yes, people would be upset if Pokémon Ranger Batonnage never was released in English.

The way you seem to think your opinion---that it shouldn't be released---takes superiority over what everyone else might want is downright selfish.

Not even likely.

Did any spin off get pushed back because of a main game release? If not, I shouldn't see why this should be any different.
