In Pokemon Blue, there is the Cooltrainer type move.
With this move, on the wiki, lots of phrases have been reported.
However I realised it was naming pokemon in my PC box occasionally.
So, being me, I switch to an empty box.
It said "DITTO used DEXTER!"
This was the name of one of my previous games that was erased by glitch pokemon.
So that leads me to think there could be a way to recover save data?

Any ideas on how it could be done?

What the heck? I think it's impossible. The saved file gets recycled and reused. Never to be seen or heard from again. There's not way that I can think of to regain save data.

But if the name is still stored somehow, then surely some other data could be too?!

You still haven't sold me on the authenticity of this, but either way, there wouldn't be enough data to even form a file. I'm not even sure there would be any. But this is Red and Blue which are infamous for their glitches. I wouldn't worry about it because it probably is some bug in the system.

I've heard cases of previous save files being restored if the game is heavily tampered with.

can you site them? The games don't store fragments of data. It's like a document. Once you save, you can't go back to what you previously saved, unless you saved to someplace else. With Pokemon, you have one save file. Nothing more.

In the anime the Pokedex was referred to as "Dexter"

The coders could have referred to the Pokedex as Dexter and the glitch may have used that term rather than "Pokedex"

Then again I could be wrong, but its a seemingly possible explanation

Oh I forgot after my game was erased by glitches I did start a second game and turned off while saving just because I was so annoyed. Can't remember what that was named though.

But the point is if the game doesn't erase data properly like how computer don't erase files when you delete them (you have to write over them 7 times) then it might be possicle, although it would propbably mean tampering with the game itself.

I doubt it, the anime came after the games.

Sometimes, save file "erasure" is just a random hiccup. It happened to me once with my Yellow cart - when I started a new game, Oak was a square MISSINGNO. who froze the game, and when I turned it back on, I had my old file back.

Never heard of data from old saves creeping in before, much less long after it's been erased, though I theorize it might happen if data gets scrambled around to a place not normally written to.

Guessing the reason this happened because when you started a new game and saved it, it did not fully save properly and part of the old save was retained and as System Error said, the save file got scrambled and gliched.

That's really interesting. Although I doubt it's possible, it would be really cool if I somehow loaded an old game from 8 years ago. I was be, like, WOAHHHH.

Well, it was only erased about 2 or 3 years ago.
But I would be really cool, the only thing is I would probably have to lose the save I have now.

They need to make it so you can have multiple saves.

The game doesn't overwrite until you choose to.
