HMs are crucial to exploration in Pokemon, so I would just like to see what people come up with when we all put our minds on it. I'll get us started.

Surge- surges surrounding water to help one reach a platform, is marked on the landscape by small puddles on a slope(not very different from Rock Climb). The elevation one can reach depends on the available water in the area around the climb point.

Maybe something like "reach"? That would bridge a gap between two banks of the river or two sides of the canyon.

transform is a brilliant idea :D

jump/hop could be good for like, clearing spaces :)

tree climb? dunno what it could be used for :/

I also like the transform idea, but I'd like to see that implanted as a
key item (that lets you dress up), rather then a move.

my ideas:
Lava surf (it is awesome in ranger).

Whirlwind (or a variation on it), blows away sand and disguises, among other things.

Grass knot (or a new move), let's you get across a cliff.

Damn, all my ideas already have been used in ranger games >.<

Climbing trees?

No way. That makes way too much sense.

Dash (would be "charge" if that wasn't a move already): Runs head on into a breakable barrier to knock it down.

Eye of Truth: Allows you to see things that you can't normally see.

Grapple: Allows you to get across gaps

Iron Foot: Allows you to fight heavy winds

Yeah, I was thinking about how you manipulate your surroundings to get around in Zelda games.

All I know is everything makes sense with environment or such. How about: Pad foot- Walking through snow has never been easier.

Would make sense if the region will have snow a lot. (and I mean crazy amounts not pussy amounts snowpoint)

mass distorter: Allows the player to walk through some walls.

I also made another nice new HM. Minors might not want to see it tough:

how about "super attract"? Only an event pokémon is able to have it (it's unobtainable in-game, and unteachable), and if you use it in front of an character, you can have sex with him/her. Of course only 18+ people can get this pokémon at the event.

Why'd they do this? 1. To stimulate adults to buy the game, 2. because they're Japanese people (no offense xD)

I forgot to mention in my first post that I would also like to see what you guys come up with for already existing HMs, write about how you would refine them into being useful in all sorts of ways. I have plenty ideas for new applications, as some of them annoy me. Also, the attacks like say Sweet Scent, Headbutt, Dig, Flash, etc. I think those should get HM status, but have improved effects that make them more useful. Like say I would like a Dig setup similar to that of Dive where you find areas of the ground that would be easy to dig through, which I would like to not really be marked by a different color ground, but by sound. Since they seem to be more into the ambient sort of thing as the generations progress. Or say like Rock Climb, maybe you can actually climb over those small slopes that hinder your progress, although this might remove some puzzle aspects... This is just one of the many new ideas I would like to explore to the maximum.

I would think of that as a new form of running shows. Get what I'm saying? I've always thought they should add onto the whole special shoes concept. Like how they explain it in the manga.

Actually, to be honest transform sounds silly to me because it doesn't really open up a new realm of exploration, but it just allows you to get past guys you could have just battled and got past in the first place. I like the tree climb idea, but I would also like to make a vine swing(or another name) that allows you to go from tree to tree. In a canopy like setting this would be awesome, if applied properly of course.

When considering a HM you have to consider parts of the environment, so think of them more like that. Some of the HMs would actually shorten exploration, lessen battle opportunities, and make it easier to avoid Pokemon in general, which isn't really what I had in mind. I wanted to see how you would apply them to the environments to maximize the exploration possibilities, or even the puzzle possibilities, which would also broaden many aspects of the game immensely.

The properties of dash could be applied to strength and just add to it's functions. The eye of truth idea reminds me of Kecleon, so I actually would kind of like that one, but not as an HM.

I don't think grapple would be well implemented really, and Iron Foot would be one of those running shoe ideals, but I can't say it's really a good one for a game that isn't truly 3 dimensional.

Grass knot (or a new move), let's you get across a cliff.

Lava surf just sounds outlandish, but who knows, it may have it's place. I was considering a whirlwind like ideal as well, but I didn't really think of it in the ways you did. I was thinking of using it to collecting objects from a distance, disturbing Pokemon, and other similar ideas, of course these things would require you be on the same elevation as the designated target.

I don't know about the grass knot idea. I wouldn't want to just skip over the cliff, I would want to be able to explore what's in it, but I can see the practicality.

Growth - Cause small plants to grow into suitable vines for climbing.

Douse - Put out fires that might be blocking your path for whatever reason.

Frost - Freeze water pools/ponds to allow for crossing.

And yes, I just totally ripped off all three of those from Golden Sun. ;p

I really like your growth idea. That sounds a lot better than my vine swing concept, but I was thinking of it as more of a bridge from tree to tree. It could fulfill the functions of that and tree climb, so it's a great idea. Too bad the name is taken though... Any other name ideas? xD

The reason I chose Transform is because it's Ditto's signature move, and Ditto really deserves some attention... He was cool in gen 1, but vastly ignored, then got a second chance and some respect in gen 2 for its breeding capabilities, but since then has become nothing but a sex-slave. Giving his only move a secondary use would pull it out of the bottom-barrel and into parties.

but, your name already says what's gonna happen. Smeargle'll be everyones new hm slave knowing transform and three other moves. No one's gonna use ditto (Waste of a party slot, especially because it only knows 1 hm)

No, Dash is a good idea. You're running full speed into a barrier in order to break it. It's not like Strength at all. Haven't you played any Zelda games?

There's a ledge that I can't get past here, and there is an opposing ledge on the other side. Grapple. Just like the hookshot.

Iron foot is a shitty idea, you're right about that.

unearth - allows you to discover items, pokémon that reside in the ground

example: you're walking on the beach, and then you see the tip of an item/pokémon. you use unearth, and then you have the ability to pickup the item or encounter the pokémon.

submerge - allows you to submerge items that are covered with some sort of dust, dirt, etc. that aquatic pokémon eat

example: you found a suspicious item covered with dust, dirt, etc. in the grass. you go near the water, you use surf, you toss the item into the water, you wait. while you wait, pokémon start removing the stuff that's on the item, and then, the item comes back to the surface without dirt; it's clean. :}

magma surf- surf across magma

If there's magma, you can surf across it, and head over, acessing items and places you haven't gone to before.

Typhslion, Camerupt, etc. can learn it

psypower- uses psychic abilities to open up places.

Abra family, Ralts family, etc. can learn it

All these mentioned abilities have already been used in ranger games xD isn't that funny?

Yeah, and considering capturing a stupid Gastrodon into your styler is a total pain in the a**, at least some of those should be used in mainstream games.

Jump allowing users to get across high and large obstacles blocking routes
also allows user to go backwards on "one way" routes
