I watched the trailer again, and noticed something. In one scene, the player character (male) appeared to be skating in a street (he wasn't running, as his legs didn't move as frequently, and he seemed to be gliding over the pavement). Could this mean that, along with Running Shoes, we may get Roller Skates as well? Does this mean the Bike has been trashed? Or will we have access to Running Shoes, Bike, and Skates? Discuss your thoughts.

No running shoes. The PC will be rocking these:

Skates seem pretty neat, as the Bike could be rather impractical in the 3DS. It's showing realistic features, and while it's just a game and all, having a bike suddenly pop out of nowhere seems a little... out of place.

Of course, I could be wrong. The Bike could still be there, but maybe you'd have to park the bike at certain places so you have to move by foot? And that's where your skates come in handy?

I noticed this too. It'd be a nice change from the running shoes or the bike.

Rollerskates... even through sand, snow, rocky hills, and the like?
Whatever. It's all cool.

Whether they replace the running shoes or the bike, I just want it set to a touch screen button again (give B a rest.)

That's a nice change. Hopefully they'll introduce something like a surfboard too and get rid of those dreadful HMs.

I also noticed it. It's a nice change if it's replacing the bike and/or the running shoes. But I think it's the bke that will be replacing.

There's another part on the video when the characer seems to be running (the scene when he's in what seems to be a forest and a girl accompanies him) and the animation is different than the one where he seems to be skating, so yes, he's probably skating.

My theory is that, with the full 3D enviroments and the analog stick controlling, Running Shoes will dissapear and we will be able to control our character's speed (walking-->jogging-->running) according to how strong we tilt the stick, just like in most 3D games, making the Running Shoes moot; then, we'll get our first movement ugrade with these skates and finally we'll get the bicycle. Think about it: skating is faster than walking and running, but not as fast as a good old bike.

This, too. Not only would it make Surf unneeded (although that's a great move, I don't mind having it, other than the fact that it forces you to have a Water type in yor team), but also would allow for faster movement when on water, as surfing is always kinda slow.

Why so much hate for HMs? :bawl:

Because they're so impractical. In order to move freely around the region you have to either: teach a bunch of useless moves to your Pokemon, sacrifise a team slot for an HM slave, or constanly rotate your team.

To make things worse, they can't be forgotten whenever we want like TMs, but we have to go through whole the process of finding the Move Deleter and talking to him to delete the move.

So no more HMs please, I'm tired of them.

Focus, focus, people. Discuss HMs and TMs elsewhere, please.

Anyway, I figured the same thing as many of you have. Since the 3DS uses a different pad for movement, all you would have to do is push harder or softer to run faster or slow. Thereby skates would be the replacement for Running Shoes, since they would increase running speed without pressing the B button. The skates are probably more practical over a bike in these games, since it might be very difficult to animate a bike in a 3D game like this. But either way, it's a nice change of pace.

SKATEBOARDS GUYS.

Oh yeah, I'd love to see that. Would fit together with the surfboard.

Perhaps you could walk DIAGONALLY! It's a fact that taking the hypotenuse is faster. So, if they did to that, I expect travel times to decrease a bit.

Ugh, yes. I'm sick of HMs. The only ones I actually kind of like are Fly and Surf maybe. They should minimalize HMs, and replace some of them with items (like a hammer for rock smash and a small sword for cut)
