I just saw on X-Play that Nintendo is currently working on a new hardware console. I don't know much else about it, but if anyone does, please share it with us!

This is directly form Wiki, and is probably what you heard about. Its more of an upgrade than a whole new console.

Nintendo plans to release a version of the console with DVD-Video playback capabilities. This new model will use the CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator software engine by Sonic Solutions. Although software will be used to enable DVD-Video functionality, Nintendo has stated that it "requires more than a firmware upgrade" to implement and that the functionality would be unavailable as an upgrade option for the existing Wii model. After announcing the DVD version for 2007, Nintendo delayed its release to focus on producing the original console to meet demand

Though, I would imagine Nintendo along with Sony and Microsoft start working on there next gen console immediately after and even before there newest have hit shelves, since a lot of things may get pushed back or features that couldn't be incorporated now are saved for later. So really there is always something being "cooked up", so to speak.

of course nintendo is working ona new console. all 3 companies are more then likely working on a new console. but id say give it 7-10 yrs before we see a new one. i can see a new hand held device in the comeing yrs before a console though. its rumored that microsoft wants to get in on the hand held market seeing as how nintendo for 20+ yrs now has dominated it especialy with the DS now and how it works with the Wii

They could stick four gamecubes together that way they have backward compatibility, the wanted processing power and they can get rid of the humongous amount of gamecubes that were never sold. I am slightly surprised on the inclusion of DVD functionality, although I can't say I am surprised in the least. It's another trend to follow and it might push sales up ever so slightly, I personally think it's a bit too early to seriously discuss it and there has been almost no official information on this subject if any.

Nintendo are going to release a revised DS design which has no GBA port, it will be as thin as some of the Apple laptops. ;-)

Last I heard, that was just a rumor.

I'm pretty glad that rumored third DS hasn't been confirmed and at this point won't in the forseeable future. We don't need a DS version of the Game Boy Micro, kthnx.

I have a DVD player right beside my Wii console plugged into surround sound. Like I care about thier update.

As long as the old Wii can play all the same games as the new Wii I don't really care.

Lol, I can see the third DS incarnation now....

DS Paper

According to non-confirmed rumors, Nintendo will reveal their newest handheld console towards the end of the year, in Q4, more than likely to combat the slight lead PSP sales have had in Japan this summer over the DS, which is dropping now that Crisis Core's sales are dying down.

As for a home console, all three main companies are always in planning for the next generation, but it will be at best guess, 3 years before we see code names and another year, maybe 2 before release I'd guess.

That would be the Nintendo Revolution that will be able to play all Nintendo products ... EVER!!!!!!!!

7-10? No way.

From right now, we're probably looking at 3 years until a post-Wii console is launched : Wii launched 2 years ago (2006) and 5 years appears the standard waiting time between console generations these days (SNES 91, N64 96, GCN 01, WII 06). So 2011 for the post-Wii console, which makes it three yers.

I think the Wii has enough untapped development potential that it would be a shame to move on so soon.

I do wonder if a Blu-ray option will ever be added.

^Considering this generation was a huge leap from last-generation, the gap between console's being released has probably widened, meaning 6-7 years is a pretty good estimate, I'd say, well maybe 4 or 5.

Probably, bearing in mind in 3-4 years Blu-Ray will more than likely become the standard. And this is becoming more evident as HD seems to be picking up significantly each year.

The PS3 having a Blu Ray dvd players installed and then selling the console far cheaper than they could have looked at first like a big gamble, but it was undoubtedly a shrewd move (many people bought it solely for the dvd player) because it has secured Blu Ray's supremacy in the competition for the future dvd standard.

A huge leap?

Not really that huge. 3D was a huge leap, but it came 5 years after the previous generation and 5 years before the next. Seriously, look for Generation 8 (for consoles) to hit the floor running circa 2010.

Well it was the cheapest Blue ray player at the time.

Yeah, the fans really confuse me. Its either Gen. IV was the biggest mistake in the history of Pokemon or its the biggest leap forward. I mean I've seen people say they consider Platinum a stand-alone game because of how different its plot is, even before we know anything about it.
