New PBR Videos (Starter Final Forms!)

It's official. If I wasn't getting one, I would buy a Wii for this game alone. It looks more amazing with each new video.

Yeah, I really am digging what looks like a character creator, plus having the announcer also looks great, it makes me wish the Wii was region free (or atleast as an option)

Is it just me, or do the graphics in these newer videos not look as good as the very first teaser video we got to see (with Deoxys, Pikachu, etc.)? They're a little more blocky, it seems, and the animations aren't as realistic.

I'm finding myself becoming less and less impressed with this game as time goes on...

That is merely a Battle Pass, an upgraded Trainer's Card or Frontier Pass, if you will. There is also a Rental Pass for players without Diamond or Pearl, allowing them to play as those two characters you see. It should be possible to actually "rent", as in select Pokémon, but the teams might be pre-set instead.

If they really care about players who do not have Diamond or Pearl, this game must secretly be compatible with the GBA games. I really cannot postulate why it would not be, but so many other people seem to think that it would be considered trespassing if those games became accommodated by the Wii.

It is not just you. I was worried that the fact that Satoru Iwata was consantly referring to Diamond and Pearl when the first video displayed something entirely different, meant that the video was for another, better game that wouldn't see the light of the day. All these new videos are squashing my hopes one-by-one.

Basically, Nintendo and the affiliated companies are of the opinion that that anything related to the brand-new Diamond and Pearl games will immediately wrap players around their little finger. Developing a game that is worthy in its own right is rendered unnecessary when dealing with a new generation. You will have to excuse me if I don't really care whether that is true or not.

I think it DOES have GBA connectivity, yesterday I saw, through a Google image search, what looked to be an upgraded version of Red (the FireRed one) that was a lot smoother than what appeared in Colosseum/XD. Plus, why the heck wouldn't it, Wii has GCN control slots on top, meaning that it's plausible that Wii games could still use the GCN-GBA cord.

Of course, the major thing I'd be looking forward to with that would be tradebacks to RSEFRLG... not like they'd be nice and do that, though. Plus, with all of the new moves, it's near impossible. And it'd require DS-Wii wireless communication, then Wii-GBA wired communication, it'd probably be a bit overcomplex.

That was the video which I described as being for "another, better game". It did not have any of the new Pokémon or trainers, but it gave viewers a vibe of a game whose quality could not be reached with the GameCube, rather than a game compatible with the next-generation games. If you think carefully about it, which do you prefer?

I fear that Red and Leaf's presence in the first video will be deemed misleading by the time this game is released.

Not only that, but it is entirely possible to connect the GBA games directly to the Wii via the DS. By that I mean without using Diamond and Pearl for intermediary purposes.

I personally don't think the complications are even worth it. Game Freak chose to preserve the GBA games--tradebacks would create a new mode within the third generation, such as Feraligatr knowing Dragon Dance, or Blaziken knowing Agility. We all know the drill from the first and second generations.

I want something more. If they chose to keep the GBA games unaffected by the new generation, it should not be in vain. I want to experience the third generation metagame in a way that the GameCube simply did not allow--WiFi. Considering that Battle Revolution is battle-centric as the game implies, I would like to see plenty of variety in terms of rules and options. One such option should be the ability to play in third generation style, using only the GBA games (or rental Pokémon, obviously).

The first video showcased one very interesting arena. If it is included in the final version of the game, let it be for GBA games and Pokémon only.

The GBA games can't use the DS Wireless - so no, it's not possible.

Also, quit getting your knickers in a twist. We have new Pokemon and new games. Get over it.

A character creator would definitely fulfill the wishes of a lot of people, so that's big.

Man, I dunno what's up with contact attacks anymore, that site still has that video where Groudon slashes the air and Diaruga recoils. Hopefully it's there, that's something that has been needed for too long.

Please, haven't we been through this enough times to know better than that?

The name of the game is Download Play. The DS could receive a Download Play file downloaded from the Wii, which would then launch alongside the GBA game and essentially open up a new mode akin to that which Colosseum and XD create with the Link Cable. The GBA games themselves would not use the DS wireless function.

Much to your dismay, you will find that I am not the only one to hold this opinion.

The screenshot shows a Rental Pass with the default trainers (as opposed to a Battle Pass with the Diamond and Pearl trainers). As far as we can tell, there is no character creator mode.

So, we are supposed to embrace a sub-par game? I'm willing to bet you're not a huge fan of Pokémon Dash.

The opinion that we should be eternally trapped in the Third Generation and never have any new Pokemon or games with those new Pokemon, just because you have some sort of rock-on for it?

Please.

Also, what sub-par game? D/P are great games and we know next-to-nothing of Pokemon Battle Revolution.

Incidentally, I actually enjoyed Pokemon Dash for a day or two - it was, in it's own charming way, a bit of fun. Though it most certainly doesn't have any lasting appeal.

No, the opinion that if the fourth generation brings the least amount of upgrades to the game formula and mechanics compared to its predecessors (more than anything it retrieves features that were lost in the transition from Crystal to Ruby and Sapphire), then the third generation should not be eliminated in its favor.

The fact that Stadium GS was made compatible with the first generation games proved that those games were not really shoved aside for Gold and Silver's sake, and everyone can agree that even if they had been, at least it would have been justified. The fact that the Mobile Adapter service was properly discontinued after Ruby and Sapphire were released, and that players could still use the adapter to communicate for battles and trades, made up for the fact that the third generation did come at the expense of the second (and first).

This time? I challenge you to come up with one good reason why the GBA games deserve to fade into obscurity. And before you ask, "I don't care" is not a legitimate answer.

I do not find much comfort in the fact that Diamond and Pearl retain the classic formula that makes all traditional games as great as they are. Looking at Diamond and Pearl, at this point in time, I am not convinced that Game Freak went through ingenius brain storms to achieve what they did. It is not as if I thought that their previous three records were just that - ingenius - but I did not feel the need to point out otherwise.

We can already see that the game is gradually moving away from what it first seemed to be.

Who knows? Perhaps if the Pokémon Company had not been so shy about leaking Diamond and Pearl footage, we would have also noticed how those games turned out differently than planned. We would have likely been disappointed about what got cut out from the final versions - but luckily for us, we do not really know any better, so obviously the games are as good as they could possibly be.

I've heard lots of people claim that, but to be fair, the best animated things were Deoxys and Pikachu in that clip, and they haven't been seen since, so it could very well be in the game (as with the city level). Gokazaru also looks good given its stance at the end (the kung-fu thing). I think most of the problems reside with the fact that there is a cap on how good the monsters can actually look due to design.

Also there still could be a character editor. With online, it seems obvious for them to want to make one (also considering space).

If the Narrator is back, I wonder if PUSA could get good ol' Lewis to do it, or would we get a new one?

Personally, I find Unown Lord's complains about the 4th Generation baffling and confusing. First he keeps on saying how great the 3rd Generation was, but then he complains how nothing was changed in the 4th generation. If hardly anything has changed, why still support Generation III?

What makes you think tons of things got cut from Diamond and Pearl? The Pokemon series has NEVER been about innovation. Within ten years, what has really been added?

* Genders and Breeding
* Natures
* Abilities
* New moves and Pokemon

That's really all that's been improved when you come right down to it.

This time we had old moves altered, which seems to be the chief source of your bitching. You complain about the one thing they changed. Boohoo. Frankly, I think it was a good idea. Now Electric/Dark/Fire etc. Pokemon don't need to have high Special Attack to be useful and vice versa. If anything, the ability to have Attack-based Water types and Special-based Rock types and the like has greatly improved the metagame, in my opinion.

"Why shouldn't they?" is a perfectly legitimate answer. What does the third generation that the fourth does not? Oh wait, your precious Attack/Special move exclusivity. I'm sorry you might actually have to rethink your strategy for Generation 4. ;_; Boohoo.

I agree that Battle Revolution looks like a half-assed Stadium 3 with no real features besides Battle Frontier-style special rules for Battles and teh pretty graphics, though, made to quickly cash in on the 4th generation buzz.

Personally, I find Unown Lord's complains about the 4th Generation baffling and confusing.

He uses too many big words and College-level theories on a kid's series of games...

It's being developed by Genius Sonority. I'd say that fact alone makes it almost a lock that there'll be a story mode of some sort.

I have to admit I'm not sure what Unown Lord is complaining about in regards to Gen III vs. Gen IV. From what I understand, he wants PBR to be able to connect to the Gen III handheld games independently of DP so battles can be in Gen III mode instead of just Gen IV. I think it's an interesting idea, but I seriously doubt Genius Sonority will include both battle systems.
