Poké Balls

Surprised this isn't here yet.

Okay so the standard for every new gen is at least five new Poké Ball variants. Gen I we got Poké, Great, Ultra, Master, and Safari; II gave us the Apricorn Balls Level, Lure, Fast, Friend, Love, Moon, and Heavy, as well as the Sport Ball; III gave us Premier, Repeat, Timer, Nest, Net, Dive, and Luxury; IV gave us Dusk, Quick, Heal, Cherish, and Park.

But what will the Gen V new variants do? And the better question is...

Will they keep the Apricorn Balls this time around? They had better... oh they had definitely better. I'm not gonna be happy if they screw us out of them again. If they make the move to Gen V, maybe they can again be held by Pokémon, and thus be treated in Gen V's probable time capsule function as Gen V items... Tradeback to Gen IV, just identify them as Poké Balls in DPPt and properly in HGSS; it's not like it'd be that hard.

Anyway. My personal hope is that they give us a Poké Ball that'll do better in the heat or against Fire-types (non-stacking, of course). 4× against Fire-types or if used in strong sunlight/during the day (not morning, just day) in a desert or jungle or something, 1× otherwise.

Re: Poké Balls

an ice type pokeball and dragon type pokeball would be really cool

Re: Poké Balls

I don't like making Pokeballs out of Apricorn.

It's just so much easier and less annoying to just buy them.

Re: Poké Balls

Apricorn Balls should stay. As for ideas for new Balls:

Under Ball (short for Underdog) - We have the Level Ball which works better on Pokémon of a weaker level, so why not a ball that works better on Pokémon of a HIGHER level?

Atmos Ball (short for Atmosphere Ball as Weather Ball is already an attack name) - A Pokéball that works better when a Weather Condition is in effect could be pretty cool as well.

Type Ball - A Pokéball that works better on Pokémon with a primary type that is weak to the primary type of your current Pokémon (for easier calculation...otherwise Heracross vs Aerodactyl for example, would be confusing).

Contest Ball - A Pokéball that raises the contest stat of a caught Pokémon. The contest stat that is increased will vary depending on the Pokémon's preferred food (for example, if it likes Spicy Food, it's Cool Stat will be raised, and if it likes Dry food it's Beauty Condition will be increased.

E.M.F Ball - Increased catch rate for Electric and Ghost type Pokémon. (Been watching too much Ghost Hunters...)

Re: Poké Balls

^The type ball could work as followed.
The effectiveness of a move of your pokemon's only/primary type against the wild will be x
The effectiveness of a move of your pokemon's secondary type (if it has one) against the wild will be y

Your pokemon has one type: catch rate=x*2

Your pokemon has two types: catch rate=x*y

Re: Poké Balls

Well, if the new games do end up allowing trades between Gen IV and Gen V then it stands to reason Gen V will include all of Gen IV's Pokeballs (if only so that they'll show the correct ball type in a Pokemon's status screen, showing what type of ball it was captured in). The Apricorn Balls in Gen V might end up being like the Cherish Ball, though... existing in the code, but unobtainable in-game.

Re: Poké Balls

I like this topic idea.

Magnet Ball: Guess which type it most easily catches?

Antique Ball: A ball common to what they used a generation ago. Works just like a Poke Ball, but it's old, rusty, and dusted.

Curve Ball: Is automatically thrown again a second time if the Pokemon breaks out the first time. Basically, it's good for two uses, but isn't any more efficient than a standard Poke Ball otherwise.

Bomb Ball: Emits a small explosion when it contacts the foe, doing slight damage. Helpful for weakening the opponent a bit more without wasting a turn attacking, but it may end up KOing your target....

So a Poke Ball. That captures Fire-types.

Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Fire!!

I loved the Apricorn Balls from the very start when they introduced them (though admittedly a lot of 'em sucked... balls). I was bummed when RSE opted to not keep 'em, but I do like how they explain in game that places like the Devon Corp. and Silph Co. artificially create these Balls instead.

Bulbapedia has the perfect picture for this thread:

Re: Poké Balls

Similar to the friend ball and the luxury ball we need balls that promote healthy growth. Balls that can increase EV stats. Similar to those stat-increasing things introduced in Diamond/Pearl but maybe at a slightly slower rate increase.

Not that I would use them very much but I guess for the competitive trainer they could be useful.

While not new ball talk it's still balls related, it would be nice if 5th gen added a station for changing a Pokemon's ball to another, so you could change bred Pokemon from a Poke ball to something else, perhaps the luxury/friend ball for baby Pokemon.

And in case you cry "Broken" the ball they are in originally is destroyed, so that way no one can be cheap with master balls.

And even though I think it would be a great feature, it kind of feels too convenient, it feels like there has to some cost to it, or something that prevents it from being as simple as having the new ball in your bag.

Future Ball- A ball that works at a later turn, you throw the ball and right before it hits the Pokemon it disappears and the battle resumes. A turn or turns later it hits the opponent out of nowhere, surprising it. It would work better than certain balls because you caught the Pokemon out of the blue. Perhaps there could be some random turn integer implemented like 1-5 turns and the longer the Future ball holds off the more likely you'll catch the Pokemon. So if a future ball takes 5 full turns before its used, it would be much greater than an ultra ball, one turn would probably the equivalent to a great ball.

Re: Poké Balls

I say a horror ball, you throw it and a huge ghostly hand drags the Pokemon in, but its very expensive.

Re: Poké Balls

-Light Ball. the opposite of a Heavy Ball. Suck on that Gastly!
-Gem ball. 4x Catch rate if the pokemon evolves with/evolved from an evoloutionary stone, or if that pokemon is holding an Evoloutionary stone.
-Smasher Ball. Deals damage upon Impact then pulls the weakened pokemon in. Takes away 10HP before capture. CAN cause the target to faint.

The smasher ball sounds awesome.

Love this idea :D.

Follow Ball: A ball that has a 2x capture rate if the target has used Dig or Fly or Bounce.. You get the idea :p Otherwise it has a normal capture rate.

Re: Poké Balls

This is pretty corny:
Flight Ball (makes it easier to catch Flying-type Pokemon).

Re: Poké Balls

Heres one, Spider web, a Pokeball for bug type.

Net Ball does that.

Personally, I've always hated the Master Ball design, and I wish they'd change it (not that much of a stretch to think different MB's would look different, is it?).

Other than that, I'd like custom pokeballs for pokemon you receive, i.e., a fossil pokemon, Game Corner, hatched from an egg, all of these would have special pokeballs you can't get elsewhere.
