New Pokedex layout needed?

Scrolling through the Sinnoh Pokedex is, I think we can all agree, a bit of a bother. The new Johto Pokedex was okay, but I really don't like how using the scrolling bar on the right brings you too far up or down at once; it's a bit fiddly for me... And something I REALLY hate is that to get to a Pokemon's "Size" or "Area" now, you have to press "Details" and then press "Size". Why can't "Size", "Area" and "Forms" be next to everything else?

Does anyone else think a new layout's needed, considering there is NO WAY that 600+ Pokemon would be comfortable to scroll through in ONE SINGLE LIST?

I just had an idea for this new Pokedex layout and I'd like to get some feedback on it. What do you guys think? (Click on the thumbnails below to enlarge).
You don't have to read the explanation; it uses the touch screen so it's pretty self explanatory..

Screenshot A is obviously fake, made by me.
There are a couple of improvements I think would be GREAT if they actually did them.

The first is that instead of having all the Pokemon in one long list, they're seperated into groups of 100 or so in the National Dex. Along the right side in Screenshot A, you can see tabs labeled "001-100", "101-200" and so on. Simply tap "001-100" to bring up Bulbasaur to Voltorb.
So if you want to get to Celebi, instead of having to scroll down 250 spaces, simply tap the "201-300" tab and scroll down 50 spaces.
In "Options" you could replace those tabs with "Kanto", "Johto", etc. to view them by region, or "A-F", "G-M" etc. to view them by name or whatever you want.

Picture A's pretty self explanatory; The two big red arrows are for scrolling up and down on the touch screen..

Pressing each of the options on the left of the bottom screen would bring it to the top screen.
In picture B, the Hoenn map and listing of areas is up on the top screen for Taillow. This is all on the top screen so you can keep on scrolling up and down and see different Pokemon's Forms, Areas, Cries etc. without having to press any "Back" buttons. A small timesaver, but still nice.

Screenshot C and D are from HeartGold/SoulSilver and Platinum so you can compare.

Feedback? Do you think a new Pokedex layout's needed for Gen V considering a Dex with 600+ Pokemon is on its way?

I have something much simpler. Top screen has the info like text, map, size, stuff like that. Bottom screen has a wheel where the Pokemon are on, and they scrool back and forth. All the buttons are under that scrool wheel that goes left and right, and the seen and caught are left and right to the Pokemon's name on the bottom screen. Pic included:

I suck I know.

Usually I hate fan-presented ideas...but I actually really like this. I do agree that, to look for Gen 2/3 Pokémon, it really is a bother having to scroll through the Pokédex. One change I would make though, is rather than have the Day/Night thing being over the scroll list; to possibly open up a new page on the bottom screen where you can adjust the time of day, similar to DPt.

I LOVE that idea for a bottom screen; I completely get what you mean, don't worry. I LOVE the 3D sprite scrolling! FTW!...(though obviously, I put more effort into my pic )

Yeah, but my point was to get rid of "Back" buttons...This way it's ALL done on the one page. Still, I suppose having that for Area wouldn't be too bad a thing.

I like the way DPPt did the Pokedex. D: Looks real smooth. And it's no hardship to search for the Pokemon you want. Search their name and type, and presto, Pokemon you want!

Okay...I just turned on my DS to look at the Pokedex in Diamond and the Search isn't really that quick...

I like the HGSS dex. It's laid out pretty well. Personally, I never look for size or weight or anything.

That might get tedious if you don't know the Pokemon's number.

But I'm all for an "easier" Pokedex similar to HGSS.

Hm...true. But that'd really just be for scrolling down through the list to see any ones you might be missing or whatever. Add a seventh tab for "SEARCH" ;-)

My favorite layout is the DPPt dex. With that, I'm less likely to skip over a pokemon, unlike in the HGSS dex. Plus, sometimes I like to see how far I can go in one swipe of the scrolling wheel.

I don't think you could really fit that many buttons on a touch screen the size of the DS's. Take the alpha selection screen on the GTS for example; I always use the buttons for that because using the touchscreen only registers maybe 1 in three times. I'd also hate to lose the index page of HGSS. The scroll bar is useless, no argument there, but i think it would be better replaced by a series of four (I guess five in BW) buttons that take you to the first entry of each region's unique section.

The change I'd really like to see, which we never will because it would require Nintendo to rebrand all their merch, is a logical national pokedex numbering system. Baby pokemon should go in front of their adult forms and evolutions, regardless of how they are achieved, should go directly after their previous stages. As well all twelve starters (or maybe 15 by BW) should go at the start of the dex, followed by all the filler tiny bird and rodents, and all the dragons near the end followed by legendaries and nintendo event only legendaries.

Yeah, I do that too....

After thinking about it, it might be okay to have it all in one list (perhaps similar to HGSS's if wanted) and have the tabs go to set positions in the Dex.

I hope they keep the dex the same as DPPt because of the wheel which was a great idea for finding pokemon but keep the weight checker from HGSS which i liked a lot

I'd say bring back the habitat dex from FR/LG and give that the same layout From HG/SS...

I had some fun time tonight when I tried to come up with a Gen V Dex :p Here's my mockup.

Did everything except images but including text by hand. Basically, I'm making the Pokémon selector in the bottom screen a lot smaller and bringing the mode buttons to the limelight. :)

E: Right, just noticed it doesn't have an "Exit" button :D That one is important... (I'll improve the pic later anyway.)
