I couldn't find a specific thread for this and with Generation 8 a sure possibility in the next year or two, I really think there could be a nineteenth pokemon type, but what would it be?

I have a great idea for the glass type (I did mention somewhere before, so some of you may be familiar with it, but just for everyones sake, i'd like to go over it again - and this time i even have some pokemon ideas!)

The glass type is immune to water! (the only type to have this) and is immune to poison. Also, it is resistant to flying, bug and ice.
Fire, Fighting and Rock are super effective against the glass type, while glass is super effective against normal (since a regular person would get cut up)

Here are the glass type pokemon ideas i've come up with so far.

Pure glass types

Glazed
Sharpedge

Half glass types

Seeme (Glass/Dark) gets a third immunity to psychic
Innocracks (Glass/Fairy)
Hailpanels (Glass/Ice) especially weak to fire and rock
Inpieces (Glass/Ground) gets a third immunity to electric
Wounder (Glass/Flying) strong against fighting
Shiny (Glass/Grass) strong against water, while also being immune to its moves

I'm really not sure what else can be done for new types, most of the ideas that people tend to come up with either are too obscure to really explore with a full new type or overlap too much with another type.

At any rate, if any new type were to come about, it would probably want some combination of the following:

SE against Ghost
SE against Electric
SE against Water
Weak to Poison
Weak to Bug or normal damage from Bug
Weak to or normal damage from Grass
Resisted by Ice
Resisted by Grass
Resisted by Bug
Resisted by Rock
Resists Ground
Resists Dragon

At one point I came up with an Alien type which was SE against Electric and Water and weak to Poison and Grass, but that's pretty much out the window at this point. If they were going to make an Alien type they would've done it when they introduced Ultra Beasts. Now, I'm not sure what type they could come up with that satisfies some combination of the above.

Maybe a type that's weak to Ice? Ice's original purpose was pretty much taken by Fairies, and it's in desperate need of a buff.
I also like the idea of a "Cosmic-type". We have numerous space-related Pokémon (Palkia, Deoxys, Elgyem/Beheeyem, Starmie, Lunatone/Solrock, etc), and it could even be weak against Psychic to buff the latter.

I generally think there are enough types now and that what they should be doing is adjusting the existing chart rather than adding in new types, but I'll admit I've never hated the idea of a Cyber type no I'm not just ripping off VRAINS. I think it's a wide-enough thematic net to support a lot of design ideas, and it wouldn't be very disruptive to the type classifications of existing Pokémon since Porygon is really the only "cybernetic" Pokémon at the moment (although they could include Voltorb if they wanted to spice it up). Plus, there would almost certainly be a token Eeveelution to go along with the type, and I think seeing a more mechanical/artificial one would be pretty interesting.

I'm not too sure on how I would lay out the type interactions, but I would definitely have it resist Fairy and be resisted by Bug.

@Esserise reminded me that even I wondered about the possibility of such a Type before, and it would be the only one I feel is 'missing'.

Cyber Type Interactions:
Immune to: Fairy ('cause logic and science don’t believe in fairy tails)

Resistant to: Psychic, Steel, Dark (anti viruses?), Electric

Super Effective against: Fairy, Fighting, Flying

Types resistant to Cyber: Normal (becuase humans control technology, Electric

Types immune to Cyber: Ghost (since paranormal entities are shown quite often to be unaffected by cameras and the sort)

Types Super Effective against Cyber: Fire, Ice

Help would be appreciated in balancing this thing out, since I believe this would make some types overpowered...

Pokemon Retyped to Cyber

Mewtwo: Psychic/Cyber. Note: Mega Mewtwo Y would lose Cyber type since it's more focused at "coming back to roots" like Mew.
Porygon: Normal/Cyber
Voltorb: Electric/Cyber
Genesect: Cyber/Bug
Type: Null and Silvally are now Cyber as the default (unlike Normal as of now) and there will be a separate Normal Memory.

I always wanted to have a Aether type, sort of an holy/spirit/alien type. But since the Aether fouundation was revealed, any hope of that was crushed.

Alien or Cosmic , seeing how many we have got. Solrock and Lunatone also not feel psychic, but rather cosmic.

But maybe abilities that could work as type changes, Diamond, Platique, Gummy and so on.

Light type, yo. Strong against Ghost (duh), Water (evaporation) and Fairy (fairies are weak to holy things in mythology), weak to Grass (photosynthesis) and Steel (reflection), resisted by Grass, Steel and Ice (passes right through it).

Yes, I know it evaporating Water but not melting Ice makes no sense. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME

Our version of fairy type has pretty much covered light in my opinion. Fairy gets light related moves, or the light related moves were retyped to Fairy in Gen 6, examples being Moonlight, Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam.

dont know if I want a new type, I would rather want better abilities, moves and megas of existing pokes like solrock and lunatone.

Not a "real type", but a type like ??? or Shadow. Something that no actual pokémon is supposed to be.
I want to see more things like that.

I'd like the idea of making a proper "???" type too to show when something becomes typeless under really exceptional circumstances. Kind of like bringing back the unused error-handling "???"-type Arceus, but with a "Emptiness Plate" or something.
(Of course it'd be weird if Type:Null wasn't this typeless type...)

Also regardless of anything, something that was weak to Normal would also be very interesting. I can't see it working well in the actual games as a real type though, but maybe as an ability or move like Forest Curse.

A new type doesn't really fit atm. Sure, there's some imbalances, but we've kinda exhausted type ideas for now. I think Sana has a good idea in a temp. 'empty' type, and moves that switch things up a bit, and maybe some tweaking to Bug and Ice would be in order.

No, 18 is such a nice round number. 19 feels too weird to even think about.
Same here. And there’s still a lot that can be done with the types we already have. But if there were to be a new type I can see this happening.

Sound

Strong against:
Steel
(If soundwaves are powerful enough they can shatter steel beams)
Psychic (You can’t exactly concentrate if there’s a bunch of loud noise)
Electric (There have been science experiments that have show that soundwaves can manipulate Electric currents. That and it’s about time that Electric types have something other than ground types to worry about)
Water (Sound travels faster through water)

Weak against:
Flying
(If something flies through the air fast enough it can break the sound barrier)
Grass (There have been experiments that have shown that Plants respond to sound. And of course it’s a reference to the age old legend that singing to your plants makes them grow faster.)
Poison (You can’t be as loud as you could be if you’re sick)

Immune:
Sound

Resists:
Fire (Sound travels faster through hot air so heat would just make sound stronger)
Fighting (You can’t punch sound now can you?)
Water

Not very effective against:
Ice (Sound travels slower through cold air. That and Ice desperately needs a defensive boost.)
Grass
Flying
Rock
(Walls can muffle Sound. Lol.)

Retyped pokemon:
Whismur line (pure sound)
Igglybuff line (Sound/Fairy)
Noibat line (Sound/Dragon)
Litleo line (Fire/Sound)
Maractus (Grass/Sound)
Wailmer line (Water/Sound)
Melotta (Sound/Psychic) (Sound/Fighting)

I really like this idea but here’s how I would do it. For the sake of balancing.

Super effective against:
Fairy
(Magic vs Science. With Science winning)
Electric (Technology is powered by electricity)
Steel (Various mechanisms operate and control steel structures)

Weaknesses:
Water (Drop a device like a smartphone in water and see what happens)
Dark (Since Dark is based around dirty fighting, this would be a reference to heinous actions that take place on the web like trolling or hacking)
Bug (Well devices are prone to having bugs aren’t they? Lol)
Poison (Meant to represent viruses)

Resistances
Electricity
Steel
Cyber
Psychic (Anything a human mind can process, a machine can process quicker)

Not very effective against
Grass (Nature vs Technology, with nature winning)
Cyber
Normal (Like you said, normal people invent and control technology)
Fire
Ice (Decided to take the two types you originally had as weaknesses and make them resistant instead).

Immune
Fairy (like you said, logic don’t believe in no fairy tales)
