A large number of new moves introduced this generation were exclusive to specific Pokémon. Signature moves are often gimmicky or particularly powerful because of their low distribution, but sometimes they're oddly weak or seemingly generic. Are there any signature moves introduced this generation that you feel should have been more powerful/useful or should have been more widely distributed? Or are there any new moves you feel should have been signatures?

List of new signature moves:
  • Accelrock (Lycanroc Midday Form)
  • Anchor Shot (Dhelmise)
  • Baneful Bunker (Toxapex)
  • Beak Blast (Toucannon)
  • Clanging Scales (Konmo-o)
  • Core Enforcer (Zygarde)
  • Darkest Lariat (Incineroar)
  • Dragon Hammer (Alolan Exeggutor)
  • Fire Lash (Heatmor)
  • First Impression (Golisopod)
  • Fleur Cannon (Magearna)
  • Floral Healing (Comfey)
  • Ice Hammer (Crabominable)
  • Instruct (Oranguru)
  • Moongeist Beam (Lunala)
  • Multi-Attack (Silvally)
  • Nature's Madness (All 4 Tapus)
  • Pollen Puff (Ribombee)
  • Prismatic Laser (Necrozma)
  • Purify (Pyukumuku)
  • Revelation Dance (Oricorio)
  • Shadow Bone (Alolan Marowak)
  • Shell Trap (Turtonator)
  • Shore Up (Sandygast & Palossand)
  • Solar Blade (Lurantis)
  • Sparkling Aria (Primarina)
  • Spectral Thief (Marshadow)
  • Spirit Shackle (Decidueye)
  • Strength Sap (Morelull & Shiinotic)

I like the new signature moves so far. Some probably get given to other pokemon next generation but I think some will remain signature moves.

or should have been more widely distributed?

Well before we get into the Gen VII moves, I think Light of Ruin should be distributed, period. :p

I actually didn't know that Ariados and Heatmor, of all things, got new signature moves, but it's great to see. I really like both of those Pokémon.

"You know what Pokemon is beloved by the fan base and deserves a signature move? Heatmor!"

"Brilliant! It will be such an awesome move we won't even allow you to obtain it when the game comes out!"

"You, good sir, have earned a raise."
My dad works there, I can confirm that this is exactly how the conversation went down.

I believe Ice and Dragon Hammer will get distributed to other Pokemon
Ice Hammer I can see Beartic getting

"Now, should we give Aurorus Aurora Veil?"

"Forget Aurorus, nobody will care. Lunatone/Solrock shouldn't have Moonlight/Morning Sun by level either."

I'm baffled that they took the time to give Heatmor of all things a signature move and still didn't fix these.

I agree with you there. In my opinion, you should only give signature moves to Pokémon that are actually planned to be present in the game proper, not make it inaccessible upon release. I feel like the Salandit line should have also gotten it. Maybe they'll get it in the future?

Also, perhaps the Trubbish line could get Purify? After all, one of Garbodor's Pokédex entries say that it attracts filth to a helpful degree among janitors. Purify could be a great way to show that off!

I'm surprised Leafeon didn't get Solar Blade. It really could use another powerful physical Grass move.

Completely agreed. Neither of those felt like signature moves to me. Ice Hammer in particular should be more widely distributed. Beartic and Abomasnow really could use it, as right now they're kind of dependent on Icicle Crash or Ice Punch as a stronger physical Ice type move.

Will Kyurem-B finally get a strong PHYSICAL ice stab? Sucks that I lowers speed as well but it's something. They could give him Dragon hammer as well so he won't have to rely on Outrage.

I think the one I'm most disappointed by is Trop Kick. It's not really bad move on its own, but by comparison it's kind of sad. First of all, it only does 70 damage, which is pathetic because it's currently Tsareena's strongest STAB move. I'm convinced they didn't give it access to Seed Bomb or Leaf Blade just because they wanted you to use this move. And also when you compare its effect to other similar moves, it's still weaker. Its effect is identical to Lunge, a Bug type move introduced this generation that is relatively limited in distribution but can still be used by more things than Trop Kick, but it has 80 damage rather than 70. I like the idea of Tsareena having a signature move to reflect its "queenly" nature and its tendency toward kicking, but they should have made it deal at least 80, preferably 90 damage in my opinion. Sitting at 70 and being her only viable Grass move is really going to hurt her viability.

Based on flavor text, I think they did the same thing to Kommo-o. They fucked it over in terms of physical fighting STAB because they want it to use Sky Uppercut.

The starters' Signature Moves are really cool, IMO~ I especially love the Animations for them, Darkest Lariat also just has a cool-ass name~

Nature's Madness is a bit disappointing~ Why a Signature Move, to LEGENDARIES, no less, that's basically a Super Fang? :/

I expect Dragon Hammer and Ice Hammer to get spread eventually~ I'm actually surprised, looking at it, that those are signature moves in the first place~ I'd expected at least a couple other mons to be able to get them~ Perhaps Zing Zap, as well~

Agreed completely. I just get the sense one of its creators really liked the idea of it using an uppercut and tacked it onto its lore, and therefore that had to carry over into its moveset. They'd be a really solid Pokémon if not for the lack of a decent fighting attack.
There's 4 Tapus though.
You right you right, wrote that at 11 PM last night while dying of a cold. XD

I will be perfectly honest here - Accelerock was rather disappointing to me, not just because of its clone status to Quick Attack (which was practically a given), but because its animation is exactly the same save for a couple of minor changes showing off rocks flying as the attack is performed.

The mascots' signature moves are fantastic as is Zygarde's new Core Enforcer. Prismatic Laser, while less practical, is really cool looking. And finally for now, I think Shell Trap is honestly hilarious because it's basically asdfmovie.

The literal Shoryuken. If that's the case, though, then damn - that really does suck. This is even after other entries like Emolga which links it to Discharge even though it has several other options like Volt Switch that are notable for use on it.

Guardian of Alola, probably. Also, it's pretty good for tanks - application is a bit difficult in general, though I've heard that Super Fang was actually somewhat popular in 2016's VGC, so hey - we'll see what comes about for that.

Clanging Scales seem like a good move at first, but I raised my Kommo-o to be trained in physical attacks, not special. And the drop in defense isn't really good, either. So I got rid of it for Brick Break.

The mascots all have amazing signature moves, which are also great Z-moves. Decidueye's animation never gets old for me.

I don't know why Ariados got a signature move - is it because Guzma uses an Ariados? I know it's not his signature pokemon, but it's still pretty powerful - his Ariados wiped out my entire team when I first battled him.

Probably like the minor few things they want to experiment with for revitalising old mons with new powers. It's not the first time it's happened, and probably won't be the last - we saw three mascots who are up to 10 years old at this point each get a signature move of their own, and in the Generation prior to that, Mewtwo got one (edit: And it was overpowered as heck). Other, less powerful mons aren't exempt from this either, and I do like that that's the case - it could help revitalise our perception of certain mons, and at least in this case, it makes a lot of sense because Spider Web is a thing and they're the only poison types that learn the move!

Though speaking of exclusive Z-Moves... Are we able to comment in this thread on the ones revealed so far, too?
