Hey I just bought a DS and wanna get a Pokemon game, but I don't know what one to get!

I was thinking Platinum, but I don't want to miss out on any of the interactive features between other Pokemon games like the Mystery dungeons. I heard there is a secret pokemon in them that you can get for Diamond or Pearl. Is it worth it?

But then there is the Explorer's of the Sky coming out soon as well. Will that have a Pokemon you can trade into Platinum? But I also don't want to get that one if it's a continuation of the story from Explorer's of Dark or Time! Confusing!!

Halp?

No, they mystery dungeon games don't have pokemon that you can trade over to the main series. Exploresr of the Sky is to Dark and Time what Platinum is to Diamond and Pearl - a third verson. Personally, if you want a game now, you should go for Platinum, since it has the most content to it.

True, you can get Manaphy, one of the more elusive legendary pokemon from Mystery Dungeon. I recommend Diamond or Pearl first; while Platinum is essentially a re-visit, there's a lot to be discovered in D/P firsthand. I prefered Platinum though, so I don't know. Go with what you think.

EDIT: Whoops, I'm thinking of Pokemon Ranger. Ignore me!

If you're starting with Pokemon, I would recommend Platinum. It's the latest Adventure Game, and has more features than it's counterparts, Diamond and Pearl.

If you wish to look at the games, check Bulbapedia, which is a wiki dedicated to Pokemon.

I just got my DS a month ago and at first I bought diamond. A week later I got platinum as a gift. Honestly I wish I had just gotten platimun since it has soo much more content and more pokemon to catch :) So I would definately recommend platimun first.

Platinum is good, but I recommend you use friend-code trading, because you never know what you're actually going to get from the GTS. They don't show stats, do they?

Just skip to Platinum... it's actually so much better than Diamond and Pearl, even though not that much is really different in the first place. >_>

Also, the Pokémon Ranger series are really really fun and cool and I love them. They're side games, though, so try those -after- you've had your fix of Platinum.

Platinum, like everyone else said.

IIRC, you can get a Manaphy in Ranger and a handful of special Pokémon in its sequel, Ranger: Shadows of Almia. But I think some or all of those Pokémon from Almia aren't even available these days, due to them being a limited time Wifi thing. Don't quote me on that, though.

In any case, I think you can send the event Pokémon from the Ranger games to Platinum too, not just Diamond and Pearl. It doesn't even really matter anyway, unless you plan on obtaining all 493 Pokémon, which is... pretty much impossible these days.

In addition to the two Ranger games is the Mystery Dungeon series (which doesn't interact with the main series of games like Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum at all). A lot of people don't care for it due to repetitive and sometimes frustrating gameplay, but I think it's pretty fun. And they have a great, surprisingly dramatic and engrossing storyline. For simplicity:

Mystery Dungeon 1:
Blue Rescue Team (For DS)
Red Rescue Team (For Game Boy Advance... so you probably won't be able to find it. Despite that, its almost exactly like Blue.)

Mystery Dungeon 2:
Explorers of Time
Explorers of Darkness
Explorers of Sky (An extended remake to Time and Darkness like Platinum is to Diamond and Pearl, so if you're interested, just wait for this one to come out and don't bother with either of the previous two. Heck, you might not even want to bother with Blue Rescue Team since you don't need to play MD1 to understand MD2 at all.)

There's also Pokémon Dash, a racing game that just about everyone says is no good, and Pokémon Trozei, a fun time-waster.

So yeah, hope that helps and wasn't too condescending. Welcome to the craziness that is the Pokémon fandom, by the way. :p

- The Wi-Fi event Pokémon in Shadows of Almia are long gone, but you can still get a Manaphy if you beat the original Pokémon Ranger.
- Yes, you can send events from Ranger to Platinum
- Pokémon Dash is fun! I liked it better than Mystery Dungeon, but that's just me. ;P
