Because, really, two solo series and numerous team books just aren't enough. Coming to Marvel in March 2008: Wolverine First Class (like X-Men: First Class).

Source.

Because we have to make sure people know who Wolverine is before the movie comes out. He's just too much of an unknown.

Oh. I thought this was going to be "The Amazing Wolverine." Guess not.

Who's "Wolverine"? Is that a superhero name?

no, I don't know... I've said this many times, but I kind of wish there were more original and separate works from the big American comic companies... but a big part of me believes their logic is probably correct that customer would probably buy the "Simply Fabulous Spider-man does laundry" over something original.

There are a TON of books put out by every publisher that are far from anything you'd expect to find in a comic book store. From Marvel's adaption of Stephen King's Dark Tower series to their Anita Blake (not to mention the normal super-hero and team books of varying characterizations, from funny to deadly serious, plus space books, detective series, and others) to DC's Y: The Last Man, Fables, and Ex Machina (to name a few) to anything published by Image, Dark Horse, Oni Press, Dynamite, Devil's Due, IDW, and the million and a half other publishers.

Regardless of what you're looking for or your interests, there IS a book out there for EVERYONE. The reason you just hear so much about Wolverine, Spider-Man, Superman, and Batman is because:

a. Their books sell well.
b. Their merchandise sells well.
c. Their movies gross high.

You gotta back a winner. But, because of their success, the comic companies who own them are able to fund more and different books (the more successful the company, the more they can divest their earnings about various titles in the hopes of making more money).

But, again, there's an infinite amount of books out there that are not at all what you'd stereotypically expect to find in a comic book. Especially now that comic movies are such successes.
