Universal Studios has announced that visionary director Michael Bay will be directing the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic live action movie. Hasbro and Universal have teamed up before for such box-office hits such as Transformers and its sequels, and the highly anticipated Battleship. The MLP: FiM movie (which is currently unnamed), is slated to release in September of 2013.
Michael Bay has not typically involved himself in such "feminine" endeavours as this in the past, directing the aforementioned Transformers movie and the very patriotic Pearl Harbor. When contacted about the film, his only response was "I make films for teenage boys."
The plot of the film is unknown as of the writing of this post, but a credible source says that it is "unlike any other My Little Pony movie you've ever seen. It involves sentient robots, multi-dimensional portals, and intergalactic space aliens."
In an interesting adaptation, Bay has decided to change the genders of some of the characters. "I'm trying to make it more accessible to my teenage male audience," he said. Andy Serkis will be starring in the leading role as the bookish, conniving Twilight Sparkle, and he will be joined by Johnny Depp as the flamboyant Rainbow Dash, a still-pregnant Beyoncé as the fashionista Rarity, Samuel L. Jackson as the demure Fluttershy, Jack Black as the obese party animal that is Pinkie Pie, and honest Applejack will be played by Queen Latifah. The cast will be rounded out with Jay-Z as the servant Spike, Cate Blanchett as Princess Celestia, and Snoop Dogg as Princess Luna.
With such star-power in the cast, it is sure to be one of the most anticipated films of next year.
