... Things like this just make me more and more pissed off at copyright laws every day...

Indianapolis Star said:
The (Super Bowl) party's over

Churches in Indiana and across the country are scrapping traditional Super Bowl viewing parties in wake of the NFL’s stance that mass viewings of the game on big screen TV’s would violate copyright law.

The issue came to light Thursday when the Star reported that the NFL had told Fall Creek Baptist Church in Indianapolis that its plans for a Super Bowl watch party in front a big screen TV would be illegal.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Thursday the league stands by its interpretation of copyright law and would look into any violators that comes to the league’s attention. The main concern for the league, Aiello said, is groups that charge admission to watch games and those that use a TV screen larger than 55 inches to show the game.

A story about Fall Creek’s plan to cancel its game viewing plans prompted dozens of calls and more than 500 email comments to the Star’s website Thursday. Aiello said media from around the country have been inquiring with the league as well.

In Indianapolis, home of the AFC Champion Colts, Indian Creek Christian Church and Castleton United Methodist Church are among those who have cancelled plans to watch the game in their churches.

The issue came to light after the NFL confronted Fall Creek about its promotion of a “Super Bowl Bash” at the church that would bring together congregation members to watch the game with a projection TV.

Aiello said the league has a longstanding policy against “mass out-of-home viewings” of the Super Bowl, even if the hosts don’t charge admission. The NFL makes an exception to that, however, for sports bars that show televised sports on a regular basis. And that point has been a point of considerable anger among people who have contacted the newspaper in response to the story.

Now, I understand where the NFL would have issues with charging admission, but from what I heard on the news last night, most of the admission from these functions was going to a homeless shelter or some other charity organization, and a lot of them just charged a canned good. I can't see why the NFL's so threatened by the idea of one of its events bringing about some good in the world. And where the church ISN'T charging admission, they're not getting anything out of it period, so it's not like the NFL's being hurt any.

I also find it bordering on insanity that sports bars can profit from the Super Bowl and get a green flag, but if a church just wants to bring its conregation together for some fellowship, it's grounds for legal action. Is it really that different from a person with a nice HDTV having the neighborhood over?

...Things like this make me sick.

The continuing struggle between football and church. Soon, a reckoning will come. And...I dunno, something big will happen.

GOD HATES FOOTBALL!

It says so in Study Carefully Corinthians, 2:1

As this is basically on-topic, how do you feel about an NFL league match being played overseas?

I personally think it's wrong. An exhibition is fine (English (Soccer) Football teams do tours and exhibition matches abroad between seasons) but a league game is just a bad idea. If i were a local fan of either of these teams, i would feel cheated, because neither is the home team (and so the team who would have been 'home' lose their advantage) and also because the local fan base is being completely ignored by NFL big-wigs, pulling this stunt purely for cash.

NFL has a following here and in a lot of places around the world. Making a tasty exibition match at Wembley stadium would be a great idea for raising the profile of the sport in this country. I'm sure this will too, but the bottom line is that if i were a local fan of either of these teams i would be disappointed with the way my national league was handling itself in a bid to expand it's fanbase.

Wouldn't it be more like, "FOOTBALL HATES GOD"?
No, because GOD HATES FAGS and whatnot so he is able to hate football too.

(Sarcasm, dur.)

This is stupid. Like "Adult Swim put up pseudo-bombs in Boston" stupid. They really should apologize and stop being so anal. Hopefully with everyone crticizing them, it will happen.
