Hi eveyone,

I didn't think about this idea, but I looked to it, and really this is a Nice Question:-

Why the Players need Meowth to understand what the Pokemons are saying? On the other hands, the Pokemons can understand their orders quickly?

I have always headcanoned that the Pokemon are extremely intelligent so that's why they can understand their trainer's orders.

My lovely Best friend, Thank you very much for answering my thread

Hahaha, I like the answer, and glad that you are the first one, and the only one who answered me. Really maybe the are so smart so they can understand the Trainer's order, but the Trainers should trains for learning this ability, or using Meoyth

Only one Meowth can talk...

I had assumed most Pokemon were intelligent enough to at the very least understand the basic "feel" of the order/message people are giving? Like, not directly understanding the words, but the intention or meaning behind it.

Or, a more mundane explanation, the orders are just like ordering trained animals, they need to be trained to understand that "Tackle" means they should tackle their opponent.

Glad to meet you my friend, and nice to see your answer.

Well, you do have a good point here. I didn't thought about it at all, and you are right, to train any animal, then you should firstly to train them, such as the donkeys who helped the farmars. And so, maybe they can understand the feeling such as you said

That's why Pokemon Trainer are called Pokemon "Trainer", not Pokemon Battler.
Well, that's right, and I do agree with you, but the question is why they can't understand Pokemons, and meoyth?

Is it such a difficult question? In Real-Life, animal scientists already discovered that each animal species communicate with each others using different communication methods, it is just like human languages, where different people speaks different languages. Hence it is theorized that animal are unable to communicate between different species due to the language differences. It'll be just like speaking French to Asians, or speaking Japanese to British. If I use the same logic, it will not be anything surprising that different Pokemon species are unable to communicate. Through I don't know why Meowth can understand so many poke-languages. I'll just theorized that he learned to become a Poke-hyperpolyglot, as he did really sacrificed his livelihood to learn to "talk". (Note!!!!!!!! TRio Meowth is an exception. Don't take him as the universal standard.)

One more thing. Don't talk about RL animal movies where you see something like cats and dogs and birds and pigs and horses and many other animals are all "talking" to each other or portrayed as like they understand each others, such as 101(102) Dalmatians or Cat & Dog. They are fictions, not reality.

Firstly, thanks for telling me about your information. I really will not talk about the RL animal Movies, I really will not. If I will talk about them, then I should talk about digimon animes, but I will not; because this thread is only for Pokemon. Also Pokemon is unrealistic such as this RL Animal Movies.

And Now, let's talk about your opinion, I do believe that all pokemons can understand their language, and can understand Meoyth also when it use Human Language; so they can life together, but in reality suc as you said they cannot; because It'll be just like speaking French to Asians, or speaking Japanese to British. but, the problem is that they can understand Trainers, but their trainer cannot understand them

It is also doubtful does a trained dog really understands human language despite it responses correctly to certain commands. Using the same logic, it is also doubtful does pokemon really understand human language in the same level just like a human being despite it act like it understands what one says. There could be the possibility that they don't understand human language at all, but only response to the facial expressions and physical change of human body caused by fluctuation of emotional and/or mental states.

Though, if you would like to believe the anthropomorphic pokemon theory, that is your freedom. Mine is also simply just head-canon theory using RL logic to backup, but without any official canonical proof.

Well, I didn't say that you are wrong my friend; so why this words: "if you would like to believe the anthropomorphic pokemon theory, that is your freedom." No I really happy to see you so much in this thread. Multi answers you gave to me here in this thread; so I am happy.

I do think that you have a point in the term of why the pokemons can understand their Trainers; because as you said the dogs can can understand why the people that they lived with them. I did saw this in Detective conan also. Well, the same think with donkeys when they helped in the jobs. I think maybe it is an emotion

Not that I'm saying you should agree with me. Everyone has their beliefs and head-canons. Until GF or TPCi or Nintendo give out an official answer, mine and yours and anyone else's theory will remain as unverified theory, hence there is no right or wrong answer. That's why I'll respect anyone's decision if they have different opinion from me, because there is no guarantee mine is "more correct" than someone else's hypothesis.

Though, I do conceive that my interpretation is more "logical" than many others

Well, I didn't meant that. I do agree with you in some points, but I didn't understand some information also. But I think that also the that trainers should also understand what their pokemons are saying.

And really happy to see so much here

This is a very good question. As far as whether or not the Pokemon can truly understand what their Trainers are saying, I feel like the answer, most of the time, is no.

I base this off of the fact that, both in the anime and main series games, some of the PokeDex entries go out of their way to mention that this particular Pokemon is capable of "understanding human speech." (The one I can think of off the top of my head is Lapras.)

So how do Pokemon obey their Trainer's commands? At a guess, I'd agree with the sentiment above that, much like a dog can perform tricks on command without understanding human speech, so too Pokemon can perform attacks based on their Trainer's commands without actually understanding what their Trainer is saying. It's a sound association, not a "word" association.

I once read a fanfic where the author said in the author's notes that Pokémon have the ability to understand any language, in their interpretation. Interesting..

I stick with the anime approach that seems to be that Pokemon understand human language (as well as each other) perfectly, even though some Pokedex entries seem to suggest otherwise.

I don't like this approach because even in the anime there are instances where a Pokémon is specifically deemed intelligent enough to understand human language. Again, the above cited Lapras is an example of this.

From what I can tell, it seems real life animals can understand human communication depending on the tone of the voice, length of speech, and overall body language. I've seen local dogs/cats follow orders from humans who speak in foreign languages so I'm certain it isn't the "words".

Pokemon are probably the same when they become trained to follow orders. However, I do think that wild pokemon can also understand human commands based on the rewards they can get. During the OS, Misty was able to successfully command a wild Golduck to battle another trainer, but it turned out the Golduck was simply battling to impress female trainers and get attention. That Golduck probably had experience with a different female trainer in the past and remembered all the favorable reactions he got through his performance.
