Greetings and salutations! To those of you who have been fortunate enough to receive this letter, you have been formally invited to none other than Castle Vermiculus, my home and main headquarters for the company that I run. I have long since been without any business partners, and I have sought to rectify this with utmost haste. As such, I have invited you and many other individuals to stay at my residence and partake in these matters. I do not over-exaggerate when I say that this truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so be sure to come! I shall be awaiting your arrival with anticipation!
~~~
You, along with numerous other Pokemon, have been invited to Castle Vermiculus by none other than Vlad the Honchkrow, a big name when it comes to industry. The castle is located on a peninsula clearing within a densely forested area, and sprawls across the land with its massive form. It is exquisite in its design, and it has countless different facilities within its walls.
However, something much more sinister in nature is happening behind the curtains that Vlad has draped over his new guests. His main source of income actually comes from what could be called reverse-bounty hunting. As opposed to tracking down criminals that people want dead, he tracks down people that criminals want dead. In order to fulfill this goal, one of the guests is a contact that Vlad has hired in order to ensure that the other guests don't get to see the light of day.
Will they survive?
How the Game is Played
The creation of this game was heavily influenced by that of the popular Murder series that was hosted by Flame_Alex, now simply known as Flame_. However, this version of the game is more player-driven than that particular franchise.
Murderers and Innocents
Once the GM has accepted all of the sign-ups, he or she will choose one of the participants to take on the role of Vlad's aforementioned partner. The rest of the guests are tasked with determining who the killer is, using their own powers of deduction based upon clues that they may find. Just remember that you never truly know who the killer could be until the game is over, so think long and hard about who you share information with. You never know of the consequences that may follow.
Lynching
When the day nears its end, the guests publicly vote on which person they want lynched, which is a fancy way of saying "people voting for him/her getting killed". Basically, if anyone suspects another of being the killer, they can vote that person to be lynched. However, take into consideration that lynching innocents is a very real possibility, so take caution as to who you put your vote towards. And, in the event of a tie between votes, no one is lynched for that day.
Detective Work
As with most similar scenarios, clues could be found anywhere. The way that this will work is that, once per day, a participant can choose to investigate a particular room of the castle. In the event that they find anything of interest, the GM then posts said information. However, they might not always find something. So, in order to bolster the chances of finding useful clues, they can recruit additional people to assist them in this endeavor. However, you need to be careful. Vermiculus is a big place, and there are things about it that not even Vlad is completely aware of. There's a chance that your party could fall victim to a nasty turn of events...
In addition, players can interrogate the various NPCs that mull around the castle, or any of the other players. This will be integral in ascertaining who the murderer is, but note that the killer is good at his/her job, and will be difficult to get any information out of. Still, take note of everything you see, for you never know where evidence may lie.
Winning the Game
The game generally comes to a conclusion in two ways. Once all of the innocents are killed in whatever way, shape, or form, the game is over and the murderer wins. However, if the murderer managed to get him/herself lynched or killed in some other fashion, the remaining guests will manage to escape the Castle with their lives.
Nothing Stays The Same
Everything you just read? All of it is subject to change. Depending on the actions of the players, the game can change in countless different ways. Not all of the potential happenings have been listed above, and if various factors are set up in just the right fashion, the game could begin running on a completely different track. After all, predictability is boring.
NPCs
There will be numerous NPCs, all controlled by the GM, that can be interacted with on a similar level as the rest of the characters. They can also be interrogated for information, but know that, with the obvious exception of Vlad, none of the NPCs actively participate in any of the killings.
Master Vlad (Honchkrow)
The leader of a corporate juggernaut that hides more illicit ways of turning a profit, Vlad has thrived on illegal activities for the majority of his life, and he is very good at what he does. He's extremely proficient at putting on a face that isn't his. At first glance, he seems like an affable enough of a fellow, but his motives are well-hidden and well-thought out. However, he tends to have a preference towards letting others do his "dirty work" for him.
Mistress Marya (Mandibuzz)
The companion of Vlad and partially shares his role in the company, and while by no means any less dignified, she's quite a bit more ill-tempered than her partner. Workers around the castle tend to avoid her due to her strict nature and quickness to snap at others.
Milos the Butler (Shiftry)
Milos is the main workforce for the castle, and is one of the few people there who doesn't have a heart of stone. All but forced into servitude, he is a bitter servant to Vlad and Marya, and never misses an opportunity to curse their names. He knows of what really happens within the castle walls, but Vlad has done a very good job in keeping his mouth shut.
Sir Dusan (Kirikizan)
The main security force for Castle Vermiculus, Dusan is an individual with cold blades and an even colder heart. Stoicism is definitely one of his defining traits, sometimes coming across as a complete lack of emotion. He knows how to use those wristblades, and he can use them very, very well. He has a certain reputation for sometimes being unnecessarily rough with intruders, causing others to keep their distance.
Malphas (???)
Only spoken of in hushed whispers, if it all, there have been rumors of an ancient secret hidden deep within the castle's depths, driving most people insane should they enter its domain. Only after an intense interrogation of one of these afflicted did they learn of a creature named Malphas who apparently roams those grounds. Interestingly enough, Vlad continuously denies the presence of such a being.
Rules
1. First and foremost, respect both the GM(s) and your fellow RPers. Harassment, insulting, or any such behavior not only serves to disrupt the game, but it's just mean.
2. No godmodding. Having your character be able to determine the whole thing in the span of about a few minutes is not only completely unrealistic, but it ruins the game. Think of all of the hours I've put into this!
3. Romance should be kept at PG-13 levels.
4. I generally don't mind swearing, but there's a fine line where it just becomes ridiculous. Don't cross this line.
5. Activity is a must. In the event that you are inactive for a period longer than two full in-game days, (Two days and two nights) you will be kicked from the game, no exceptions.
6. If you have read these rules, understand these rules, and agree to these rules, place the word "sanguine" somewhere in your sign-up.
Sign-Up Sheet
Name: The name of your character. Easy.
Species: The species of your character. No legendaries or pseudo-legendaries.
Age: The age of your character. Depending on their species, this could range wildly.
Personality: How do your characters act and respond to different situations? A good paragraph should be suffice, but more is always welcome.
Other: Any other information you feel like adding?
Note that I will be somewhat picky when it comes to people that I accept. Not trying to be elitist by any means, but with the players driving the majority of the events of the RP, I can't afford to have someone throw a wrench in the workings.
Also, this should kind of go without saying, but I still feel a need to put it here. Know that this is an RP that revolves around people getting murdered. And I'm the one running it. So, needless to say, there will be blood, and there will be a lot of it. So, if such things unease you and you don't feel like partaking in games with such graphic violence, LEAVE NOW. You have been warned.
