The official Nintendo site has added notices next to all the colors of the Nintendo 3DS XL, stating either that production will soon cease or that it already has ceased.

i wouldn't be surpised if all the regions had both the xl and normal discontinued before 2 long

Not at least until the New 3DS is out in those particular regions though.

I actually think the reason the new 3ds wasn't launched in europe and the americas this year is because they produced to many for those areas and are now trying to clear Excess stock out before they release it

I think it's more a case of being uncertain how it will be handled in the West. Australia certainly looks like a small test market in this case, followed by a potential release elsewhere if it is well-received.

I think I read somewhere that it's because they wanted to sell as much of the normal 3DS as they could, so they held off giving other places the New 3DS just so more people would own the normal one.

Both New 3ds models are basically the 3ds version of the Dsi

I heard that to but i think there using use Christmas to clear out all old 3DS stock in NA/EU to the point it's sold out and then "limited quantity ship" based on need.. That way they can just quietly move to the new model without people really noticing or stores being left with old models not selling because people favor the new.
