Nintendo announces worldwide DSi release dates: North America, Europe, Australia each has ...

Nintendo has announced three worldwide release dates of the Nintendo DSi, the successor to the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite. It will be released April 5 in North America, April 3 in Europe and April 2 in Australia.

The first time in ages that Australia gets a Ninty console/handheld before the US and its a remake of the DS Lite. :-(

I'll probably cave in and buy one... wait I cant. I have import games and the DS-i is region locked. :-(

Nintendo DS games aren't region locked on the DSi.. it's just the DSiWare games are region-locked.

I do wonder, since that's region-locked, does it have the language settings option like the normal DS?

Is the region locked only for the DSiWare thing or is it for Games too? And I assume there should be a language option.

I am getting one, minus the shorter battery life, it seems like a good upgrade. I have been thinking... would a DS Lite bettery fit in a DSi and would that solver the shorter battery life?

Well I don't think the games themselves have ever had any sort of regioncode programmed in (think of those DVDs that are region-free) and so could play anywhere.

For me, this is a pass. Prime's DS Lite is still working fine and I have the special edition Dialga/Palkia Lite. I really don't see the point in an upgrade right now. And I couldn't afford one now if I wanted it. (Got a convention to think about!)

Now that all may change in a few months, but we won't know until then.

My DS is still working great (a bit laggy, but it is three years old), so no DSi for me. I don't think I would want one, really. Sure, it has pictures and the DSi shop, but that I could get that stuff other ways.

I wonder why they aren't releasing the white variant in North America despite it being the DSl's "trademark color".

I wouldn't want one. It looks glamorous with those two cameras. And no GBA slot to boot. My DS Lite is fine as is.

people you really must realize that if you already have a DS, then if you get another you can just trade the Pokemon from Diamond/Pearl (Pal Park) to Platinum! I mean come on, why don't you stop trying to make it look at the bad aspects, and look at the good ones!

You mean like paying for something inferior to what we have? No GBA slot (well you can just pal park on your other gameboy; oh wait them you have two gameboys; why?) and you have Nintendo jumping on the "everything needs a camera", then were going to have nintendo phones, etc.

Ugh.
I won't buy it, as I have better things to do with my money.
