Today, Nintendo released a rather long Direct of over 60 minutes.

1. KALOS STARTERS AND RAICHU MEGA EVOLUTIONS!!!! LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
2. New Fire Emblem game! Wasn't expecting a random cameo from Sothis. Potential sequel/prequel to Three Houses? Who knows? Looks cool though! Love the music! Love me those flamenco guitars!
3. Of all the things Nintendo decided to use for NSO, who the hell greenlighted them adding the Virtual Boy?! Wasn't it universally reviled for causing motion sickness?! Why would they even bother with their worst selling console ever?!
4. Also, what the heck is that Pokopia thing with the Ditto turning into a human??? Is this supposed to be Pokemon's take on Minecraft? The hell???
5. The Dragon Quest 7 remake seems cool.
6. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade confirmed with a physical, but the question remains: Will it be an actual physical cart or a GKC?

I was hoping for a new 3D Mario, but can't say the offering we got was bad. The new Mario Tennis looks good, but I am hesitant because I didn't really enjoy the Switch Mario Tennis, and it also looked really good until I got to playing it. The new Yoshi's Island game is, well, IDK what to think of it yet.

Pokopia looks very interesting. I like how it kinda meshes Animal Crossing and Pokemon. I've always loved Animal Crossing. I don't like the Gen 1 Pokemon focus there in the beginning, but it seems to change as the game progresses? I just think that using only Gen 1 Pokemon is so overdone. They have done it too many times. Having the main character being Ditto is fine because they're using that in a fun way, but having all of the Pokemon there in the beginning also being Gen 1? Meh. We'll see what it's actually like. The art style also is very meh to me, I don't know why we have to make everything so blocky. Blocky just does nothing for me. It's why I've never touched Minecraft or other games like it.

Revealing DLC before the release of Pokemon Z-A is not a good look. I'm not against DLC, I just think they should have waited until a while after release to show it.

Doing Virtual Boy is certainly an interesting choice. The footage of the games already look painful to my eyes and I'm not even seeing them in VR! lol.

The rest of the Direct was IIRC just kinda there for me. It's nice to see FFVII Remake, but I already have it. The Donganronpa remake(?) looks cool, I suppose. I haven't played that entry all of the way through, it's on my backlog.

My three main takeaways:

1. The new Yoshi game looks adorable :') I love Yoshi's Story/Woolly World/Crafted World and this one looks every bit as enjoyable.

2. Danganronpa 2x2?? The idea that they're remaking the game is kind of whatever (I haven't made it a secret that I don't like Danganronpa 2 nearly as much as the other two games in the trilogy), but the concept of adding a new scenario where the victims and culprits change is WILD. I'm honestly super on board with that, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out. I think it'd be amazing to see the same concept with 1 and V3 too, but I won't hold my breath.

3. NEW FIRE EMBLEM! NEW FIRE EMBLEM!!! And it looks so damn good oh my god I almost cried. Whenever I watch a Nintendo Direct my #1 wish is almost always for a new Fire Emblem game and they delivered!! It looks and sounds so gorgeous. Sothis took me out, too. I cannot waaaaaiiiiiit for this one. Looks like I'll be getting my hands on a Switch 2 sooner than I thought!

i don't play many games other than pokemon but i'm super happy about the danganronpa 2x2 announcement and the fire emblem announcement because my sister and my girlfriend are massive fans of those respective franchises and i'm sure they're going to be extremely excited!! actually my sister messaged me just a little bit ago that they woke up to my texts about the 2x2 thing and didn't believe me at first, but now they're freaking out because it's real LOL. my girlfriend still hasn't woken up... but soon...

personally i am looking forward to kirby air riders the most out of all the non-pokemon stuff coming out on the switch 2 and just the announcement that there's going to be another sakurai presentation about it Soon got me so excited that i teared up. so that's nice.

the re-release of the visual boy games is certainly... interesting?? LOL. and i don't go to metroid fandom but i'm pretty sure that metroid fans have been waiting for that metroid prime 4 thing forever? so that's cool

*Very happy for the Fire Emblem fanbase.
*Bringing back Virtual Boy was certainly a...choice. I guess it has some historical interest.
*Pokeopia? Didn't like Animal Crossing so this is almost certainly a pass.
*My hype for Legends Z-A has crashed after the post-direct updates. I'll wait and see if it's worth buying when the bundle comes out next year.
*Dragon Quest 7 Remake surprised the heck out of me, even though I read a supposed leak about it. I might pick it up if they walk back the 3DS version's change to the Vocation system.

I haven’t watched the whole thing yet, just a couple bits that my gf sent while I’m at work

But needless to say, I had to step out of my office to sneak to my car for a moment. I literally screamed at the FE trailer.

Sooo excited about the new Fire Emblem game! I don't mind it being set in the same universe as Three Houses, but I truly hope they don't reveal a silent protagonist further down the line.

Super excited for Tomodachi Life! I owned the original and it was a blast to play.

The Fatal Frame II remake looks incredible, I'm definitely going to be playing it.

Three Houses has been in my backlog for years now... guess I should finally play it lol. Also never played the original, but Tomodachi Life looks really fun.

Also Hades 2 release date?? Or is this just news to me??? Anyway whoooo Hades 2!!!

Some of my thoughts:
  • Mario Galaxy Movie: This was leaked by checks notes Old Spice, then a domain checking after. Not much to go on for now. Next spring, huh? Sooner than I thought.
  • Mario Galaxy 1+2: I guess it makes sense they're rereleasing because of the movie. Seems to be enhanced further over 3D All Stars, might grab both/the physical?
  • Mario Wonder Switch 2: Another upgrade with new content, question is how much? Still need to play Forgotten Land Switch 2, heh.
  • Yoshi and the Forgotten Book: This looks neat. Might be closer to Yoshi's Island from how something is riding. Nice though.
  • FF7 Remakes: Well I have them for Steam, but dunno if 2 will really run well. But if they're digital/card key only, removes the other big point of space.
  • Dragon Quest VII Reimagined: Pretty hype. An interview after revealed this is very much "reimagined" - it's going to change some pacing and add new scenarios. More's going to be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show. Funny/sad how 4-6 continue to be damned though.
  • Virtual Boy Online: Surprised it took so long, thought they'd put it on the 3DS. I still think they should be padding out the libraries of what they already have. Seems it's an almost complete NA library (no loss with Waterworld). But Expansion Pass only and maybe needing an accessory? No thanks.
  • Suika Game Planet: Oh hey, this is nice to see.
  • Metroid Prime 4: Just another trailer. A motorbike in a wide open area? ......all right then. Still getting this.
  • DK Bananaza DLC: Reminds me, I should get to the base game. Didn't because of summer heat.
  • Ditto Minecraft???: Okay that is not something I saw coming but it looks pretty funny and adorable.
  • Pokemon ZA: It's a trailer and mega drop all right. But the news about how the Mega Stones are going to be distributed kind of killed it. I don't personally care for PvP. Also, DLC was expected.
  • Dynasty Warriors Origins: Might get this just to check out the original series. It's a port, which makes it being next year weird.
  • Fire Emblem - Fortune's Weave: Ha, everyone was wrong. People thought it'd be a port/remake of either 4, 6/7, or (because of a Walmart poster) Awakening. Not surprised it seems to be linked to Three Houses somehow, question is how? Definitely seems to be another part of the world at least.
  • Megaman Star Force Legacy Collection??? - This was only in the Japanese Direct for some reason. Expected eventually, and pretty cool. That's just about every series with a Legacy Collection now, so the question is, where does the series go from here?

Dragon Quest VII remake has my attention. I never played DQVII, and this looks a lot more interesting to me than the HD-2D remakes.

The new Fire Emblem, though... I can't say I'm feeling it at the moment, because Three Houses is already one of my least favorites in the entire series, and I'm worried this is just going to bring back everything I hated about Fodlan.

my head hurts a little rn so I don't have the brain capacity for an essay. but. oh my god this was easily the best nintendo direct of all time what the fuck

-kirby amiibo are adorable
-more mario wonder is always welcome
-mario galaxy is back from the depths of artificial scarcity... proud of her
-danganronpa 2x2????????????????????????????????? why??????????????????????????????????? (I used to be a danganronpa fan please I don't want to go back in the trenches)
-fire emblem :) it being in the Three Houses continuity was unexpected, I wonder what that's about
-virtual boy is ridiculously funny I preordered the headset already. might cancel later but I do kinda want it
-the pokemon stuff was all really cool, I'm curious about the new spinoff in particular
-tomodachi life looks great, I just need them to confirm gay people are real

Lots of goodies. Fire Emblem, Yoshi, Metroid, I'm satisfied.

Maybe this will unleash an influx of VB fanworks. Oh, right.

Never been into Fire Emblem much but I did play Engage and really enjoyed it so I'll give this one a look. I hear it's more related to the Three Houses one that came out before though so hopefully I can play it without playing those first.

I did not expect so much Pokemon news in a general Direct...I expected maybe a basic trailer since ZA had been showing up lately but not all that info AND a whole new spin off. Pokeopia looks adorable and I do love the concept, but while I did enjoy Animal Crossing I was never really that into it, so I doubt I'll buy it. Still cute though.

All my hype for Pokemon just kinda got buried when I saw the Monster Hunter Stories 3 video though. God it looks so good, and it's coming out sooner than I thought. I had thought I was gonna have to wait till June or July like the last 2, but March is a lot sooner. Still can't believe it's real.

In general I need to keep sleeping through Nintendo Directs apparently because that's when all my favorite things get announcements.

Glad to see that the Kalos starter final evolutions are getting the mega evolutions they should have gotten in the first place. Raichu X and Y for DLC is wild though lol

Other than that nothing else was really for me other than the surprising as hell Danganronpa 2x2 and the Yoshi game.

Yoshi games are really the only Mario games I play sorry.

Enjoyable I guess but I still hate game key cards and they can still fuck right off

things i'm excited for:
  • kirby air riders!! extremely pleased that there's going to be a second air riders direct. likely to market the game and generate more hype before it releases in november which is a good thing in my book
  • while i'm already set on getting legends: z-a, it's certainly an interesting choice for them to announce dlc for it, already. neutral on this, i'll withhold judgment until i play both the game and the dlc to make the determination if the dlc would even be worth getting. i don't want to be pre-emptive and then be proven wrong, so in essence this is me giving the dlc a chance
  • super mario galaxy 1 + 2 looks like a pair of mario games i should get. i rarely ever play mario games (in fact, it's been years since i've played anything that wasn't mario kart or mario party), so they'd probably be worth getting
  • ff7r - interesting that this makes it onto the switch 2! i'm.... definitely going to need a bigger SD card though. 512 for sure, just to handle that game + any other games i might buy in the future. x.x
  • metroid prime 4 looks so cool!!! can't wait to get this
  • monster hunter stories 3 looks SUPER cool. i've always wanted to get into the monhun stories franchise; the fact that they're rpgs and a monster-catcher version of the monster hunter main story intrigues me a lot.
  • dragon quest vii looks to be a solid pickup for me. i've played 8 and 11, heard mixed things about III-HD, so im hoping VII would prove to be a great game.
maybes:
  • powerwashing simulator 2 looks like a good game to kill time with. i haven't gotten the first game because. i'm just so buried with games atm but i can see myself getting this if i have nothing else to play.
  • pokopia seems to be a pokemon farming sim combined with animal crossing and minecraft elements? unsure if i'm going to get this game. i'm sure the farming sim enthusiasts might pick this up because it borrows elements from there the most it seems, but i haven't really been big on that genre of games so it may not be for me. i think when it comes out, i'll watch some more gameplay videos and make my choice then, but i think it's unlikely i'll pick this up.
overall, it's hard to say that this isn't a solid direct. usually i walk away from most directs not really wanting much out of them, but this is one of the rare ones where.... yeah. my wallet is not going to be happy with me, haha.

MEGA DELPHOX!! WOO!!!!! (As you can tell, Delphox is one of my favourite starters)
