(I'm sorry if this is the wrong place ^^" But hopefully it comes under technology...)

Is the DS out of production? Because I've been searching, and they only seem to sell DS Lites/DSis. I had this vague hope that a normal DS would be cheaper...

You could always try and find a used one, but yeah, the DS was replaced with the Lite.

I haven't even been able to find styluses (styli? Whatever) for the original DS in a LONG time. Which is a pain since the DS Lite ones don't fit in the little slot.

yeah, i only have one origonal DS stylus left because i can't buy any more. It's the same one it came with.

They sell used original DS's at Gamestop for $80. You can definitely find one cheaper on E-bay, but they are around.

Thanks guys :) I'll try looking for a second hand one. BTW, what's better about a Lite than the original?

Basically, the size of course (it’s about 21% smaller), brighter lit screen and better battery life (DS Phat is about 10-14 Hours vs. the DS Lite’s 15-20 Hours).

So it's just a bit more convenient. Thanks :)

You can find one at Gamestop. or you can order one on ebay.

I would just like to say for the record that I got a used original DS and have had no problem with it, while my two friends who got DS lites both experienced problems with the hinge breaking. I dig my DS.

Mine had a problem with its touch screen refusing to respond (the touch sensitive layer in the screen went bad) but it was repaired and I have not had a single problem since. This is the second time I had an issue with a Nintendo system, the first being a power supply problem on a Nintendo 64.

Most Definitly out of production. Think, it came out ages ago, they did it with the PS. When PS2 came out about 3 years down the line or something they stopped producing PS's and PS games. And because PS2s and PS2 games cost a bomb back then when they first came out they obviously had to keep producing PS's and PS games. Same thing with DS. DS came out and cost a lot of money, then as the prices lowered for the DS they obviously had to make money so they brought out a new adition to DS, the lite. And obviously as Lites went cheaper DSI came out. Sooner or later there probebly going to make a PS4 and a DS whatever.

Point proven =]

Your analogy doesn't work. They were still making PS1 games after the PS2 was released, and were still selling the systems for quite a while. The PS2 was (is?) STILL one of the best selling systems despite the PS3 being out. Plus...the DS lite and DSi are still DSes...they're just smaller (in the lite's case) or have different features (in the i's case). You can't really compare PS1 to PS2 in the same way you compare DS to DSi. A more accurate analogy would be the PSOne that was released after the PS2's release as a smaller version of the original Playstation. Or the current smaller PS2.

For the longest time I had a DS brick (traded it in for a DSi, am happy with the change) and I had the problem with finding the styluses. Then I found out nintendo has it's own online store, complete with Stylus stuff.

Yes i did say "about 3 years down the line" they stopped producing PS1's and PS1 games" I diddnt say they stopped straight away when PS2 came out. And sooner or later they're going to dump PS2's with the technology about nowerdays.

Well, I still have a DS Phat, I don't think the DSi added enough new features (the only good thing, interenet, doesn't even have Java, so...) and the DS lites added nothing except being smaller.
I'll probably wait 'til the price on them comes down.

Old consoles usually are pretty easy to find. Although the PS2 is outselling the PS3 right now, so I doubt they'll dump that one any time soon.

I'm sure you can buy an original DS from Amazon as I found a great Game Boy Advanced SP there. You might even be able to get a stylus too.

I'm contemplating trading in my big old DS in for a Lite.
Does anyone reckon they would take it for that? I highly doubt I could get a DSi for it, however I'm not too bothered about that.

If you're going to sacrifice your DS, at least get the DSi with it. The screen is better than the DS Lite's, and it's not a fingerprint magnet.

Alrighty then. :)
Thank you.
