Nintendo hints at European release date for Diamond and Pearl

Not bad if it happens, only a couple of months as opposed to the possible Xmas release we could have had.

I'll still be importing from America though.

I was expecting something like this.

I always find it strange that the UK has too wait for "their" version like the rest of Europe as the games are translated in english already...

I wonder how long we´ll have too wait for PBR then...I don´t want to wait till October for the wii´s first online game...( if its the first here as well...knowing nintendo...mh...-.-)

It's partly EU regulation (about media being sold in the EU in relevant languages) and partly Nintendo policy the means games cannot be released without at least a German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Italian translation to go with the English.

It wouldn't be a problem if Nintendo UK published games but Nintendo's policy in general does lean against that ever happening - especially since NOE is based in Germany.

We are getting treated better though, now Nintendo of Europe takes most of its first party games from Japan and translates them directly from Japanese - as opposed to the method used until about 2003 where almost all games went from Japan to America for translation into English and then to Europe for translation into everything else afterwards.

One of the first games we saw the benefit of this from was actually Fr/Lg, which couldn't have been released here a mere month after America if not for this new policy. And obviously, if D/P do indeed come here for June/July, they're another one to benefit.

(Still, it doesn't stop games like Emerald being massively late...)

Ah, I see..

Was Zelda TP also direct translated from the japanese version? Because Zant is called "Zanto" in Germany...reminds me of the Buizel incident..^^;

Some games don´t seem to find their way to europe at all...where´s Megaman ZX? ( okay, that´s capcom´s fault I guess...the first Phoenix wright arrived only ~2 months ago in germany o.o )
Is wario ware twisted out in the UK?

Nya, anyway. It´s good to hear that I can buy/play DP during the semester break ^^

Wario Ware Twisted got specially screwed over. EU patents or regulations (differs on which depending on when you ask Nintendo about it) originally prevented the release as planned 'cos the tilt sensor broke one of them. It's since had about 5 dates given to it, but every single one has been missed.

I think it's safe to say that we'll never see it over here, but hey - we all thought the same about Animal Crossing until Nintendo finally relented and put the resources into translating it, getting it to Europe about 2 and a half years after America.

Have we even had a hint of an Australian release date, or will it be simultaneous like emerald was?

I wrote an e-mail to NOE asking if they could confirm this and they told me that a date for the two games is yet unknown.

That doesn't necessarily have to mean that this statement of the spokesman is wrong. Maybe they just didn't want to reveal it yet or they aren't completely sure when to release the games. :\

I once e-mailed NOE asking about Ruby and Sapphire the month before the American release and they told me the games didn't exist.

Basically, until something is officially announced, it isn't addressed at all.

Also, Nintendo never comments on speculation and/or rumours, so even if there was confirmation they'd not tell you anyway.
